if he gets worked or "underperforms" yer prob kinda on the **** end of the stick anyway right? what you gonna do with him after that? chavez/vera 3???

JR is young enough that there is plenty of time to rebuild, and get back to fighting top names if he suffered a loss. He could beat up a couple fringe contenders and be right back in the mix. It wouldnt be that big a deal, but it might take into the middle of 2015 or so to be back on track.

As it stands though, his best fight in years will have been Vera II by the time Haymon gets him. I know Haymon is good, but he going to have his work cut out for him when he finally gets JR in late 2015.

Well... its being reported that JR was offered 7mil for the fight. If he won, he was offered guarantee of 10mil for next fight. If he lost, he was still offered guarantee of 5mil for next fight.

Sooo....... yeah.... I have a hard time finding fault with Arum in this deal. JR was going to make way more than he would have even fighting Martinez.

Does JR think he is Mayweather or Manny or something? He was offered Cotto type money FFS. This is now looking like a duck on JR's part. Sure, its his right not to fight. Its also the fans right to call him a lily liver bum for not fighting , especially with that level of purse.

    :patsch

This fight had nothing to do directly with money for the pockets of handlers. It was a business move. It was a means to an end of getting GGG bigger opponents. If you beat Chavez, you gain future popularity and ratings. If you can KO Chavez, not saying GGG could, you gain huge ratings. With better ratings, you can command bigger purses for bigger opponents. It was actually a pivotal fight for his career/legacy because it would have been a jumping board for finally getting bigger things. Haymon and Showtime did a masterful job stopping the GGG/HBO train in its tracks. You gotta give them props.

So who does Golovkin fight in July?

Quillin would be great, but he sounds like he's pricing himself out of a Danny Jacobs fight and really only waiting for an Alvarez fight. I think if HBO agreed to allow it, they'd only be willing to go a little over what was offered to Edwin Rodriguez at 1mill, maybe 1.5m.

Kessler is another great fight but he'd want more time to get ready and would ask for as much or more than 1.5m, based on what he could earn with another shot against Froch or maybe even Abraham.

Kirkland might agree to do it for 1m and a guaranteed future spot on HBO? HBO is big on this fight, but James was beefing with 50 last which is what killed the Nelson fight.

Otherwise stuck with Rubio, Vera, Korobov, or maybe even Danny Jacobs. Take one of those guys in July and maybe another in September or Geale if he beats Macklin.

If that's true then that's some bull**** on Chavez's part. I won't use the word duck but damn, that doesn't look good at all considering the amount of pay he's getting regardless.

Don't blame Arum, blame Chavez Jr.

Arum paid him $2.5 Million for the first Vera fight...coming off of a loss. A fight he didn't train properly in and got a gift decision. That's crazy generous of Arum and he almost lost all that investment.

Jr. probably got paid the same amount in the 2nd fight. For this fight, I have no doubt he's asking for more than $5 Million.

It's going to be PPV and if the fight doesn't sell well, Arum is going to lose money. He has every right to ask for an extension if he's going to pay Jr. $5 Million. Jr could take $3-4 million without the extension, but he's too spoiled.
