I know these discussions never end up good but important nonetheless. Opinions..
MMA makes sense its like why so many people watched Cooney Holmes when arguably the black fighters Holmes was beating were better and fought better fights America is mostly white, white fighting whites means whites tune in majority of America tunes in it makes sense i guess
UFC is for people with shorter attention spans. All of the rules are designed to accelerate the outcome of a fight whereas in boxing, the rules lean towards prolonging the affair. As the on-demand generation has come of age, MMA has grown. But, I see boxing turning into something like baseball after the NFL took over. Still extremely strong with an international talent pool and plenty of money flowing around.
i was a huge boxing fans from along time ago couple years ago i got into mma. things that annoys me is when people call mma ufc, ufc a organsition not the sport. mma is rising more people watching it growing i hope it outgrows boxing cause boxing bought in on them self
This illustrates my point. Boxing requires an attention to detail which MMA does not. The lack of capitals, punctuation or form of this post indicates a younger poster who uses a lot of text messages. In other words, MMA's prime audience: young, short attention span.
Right on the money. Good Point. I don't want to agree only because I hope Boxing remains on the forefront of combact sports.
:verysad There are many facets of MMA, more so than boxing and to say it does not require much attention to detail is stupid. Of course, the majority of UFC fans are morons who boo if there hasn't been a knockdown in the first minute of a fight. The main reason why the UFC is so huge is because they are an organization who put together the best fights. Champions defend against top notch competition and if you want to hold the belt for long, you have to face the best. The polar opposite of boxing.
Interesting comments and Arum does have a point, but comparing Boxing to MMA is like comparing the tastes and connections of a middle aged man to a teenager. Sure MMA is a White male audience. They are the first to embrace it on a mass scale in America. The UFC marketing team reflects that. They will continue to reflect that until they reach market saturation and I am sure, like any smart business, they will begin to branch out. So MMA's audience today has little to do with MMA's audience in 5, 10, 15, etc... years from now. Sure, Boxing has a more diverse audience. Great. As long as it has been around? If it didn't there would be a problem. Sure Boxing should be on network TV. Problem is that it was and lost that spot. Now the question is "Why?" The answer lies right with the man that is sitting here telling you what is wrong with MMA... Promoters. I am definitely a Boxing fan first, but MMA is a close second as I love combat sports. However if guys like Arum want to trash MMA? He better get his head out of his butt and start working to put on network cards that CROSS promotional boundaries and start stacking PPV cards. Boxing hasn't seen stacked cards since the days of Don King. Arum, who's fault is that? MMA (really UFC) has central control and will be above the petty BS infighting they have the advantage in structure.
MMA is more popular and will remain to be. At some point we need to start blaming American boxers themselves. You can promote a fight all you want but when you get two fighters that just want to slap each other then complain about injuries, it makes for a ****ing boring event, that nobody wants to watch at all. The Bradley Alexander event was just plain boring, there was no televised under card at all either... UFC cards are full of fights and action sorry, but MMA is generally more exciting. Khan Maidana was a real ****ing fight the way it should be, but unfortunately the event was poorly promoted.
I think this is a misconception, MMA is far more fragmented than boxing. UFC fighters can only fight Strikeforce fighters if one or other leaves their organisation and contract; great for promoters, bad for the sport. The UFC taps into the American public by filling its roster with Americans, discrediting fighters from other orgs and nationalities with a few notable exceptions (Anderson Silva et al.) As long as people believe that all the best are in the UFC then they'll be happy with the best NOT fighting the best and athletes being short-changed in the process. There's a good reason why the UFC fighters get the attention and boxers get the pay-days.
dont worry mma will destroy boxing i will make sure of it. idk how and yeah i aint a adult or well like a 30 year old virgin like u guys behind the forums huh sad huh still living in ur mother basement
