Agreed.. As long as both stay undefeated and the hype keeps building, it'll be huge.. Let them both clean out their division and they could possibly unify the titles.. No need to rush these two into a fight now..

Gamboa might be 35 for all we know and Lopez is as ready as he is going to be. There is nothing left to build for this fight, everyone who is going to know who they are already knows who they are. The way they become bigger names at this point is by fighting each other and putting on a memorable fight.

I disagree as far as this one goes. It's as big as it's gonna get. You generally don't get more than the boxing public interested in these lighter weights. I want this fight now! It's a great fight, and they already have the followings that each are going to have. Only a fight between the two could make either of the any bigger.

Same thing as Alexander and Bradley. It just wasn't going to be a huge fight. It wasn't that they did it too soon... it was that they held the event in a ******ed location.

worst possible location! They should have put it the joe louis arena, at least that way, more people would have been interested in the Detroit Casino's for more entertainment.

    It still needs to build.

My mates who are casual boxing fans haven't got a clue who either are.
What are JML/JG's ppv numbers/biggest gate to date? What would their ppv numbers be if they fought in 6 months?

That right there tells you there's more money to be made. Arum has a plan and he loves it when a plan comes together.

    Until it falls apart.

If your mates don't know who Lopez and Gamboa are by now... then they sure as hell aren't going to ever know. Explain to me... how are Lopez or Gamboa going to get any more publicity than they already have without fighting each other? Their fights are already aired all of the time... they already both have all of the exposure they are ever going to get without fighting each other. Arum doesn't want them to fight because it means that one of his fighters will have to lose. It's nothing more than that... don't let any of the other bull**** fool you.

This fight can't get any bigger... it can only fall apart from here on out.

Since when did we the fans start applauding promoters for plans designed to make them more money? I'm not going to see a cent of Arum's profit and neither are you. Why should we care about that at all?

Missing out on a few extra thousand buys on one fight isn't going to hurt the sport. Putting off exciting fights that will create new fans will. This isn't about fistic rhyme or reason, it's about Arum lining his pockets, and with all the money he's made already I'm calling bullsh*t. Strange things happen in life, everything can't always be "perfect" before you take a chance.

Arum is right on the need to build fights but this one is close to ready, they have been on a course to meet for close to two years now. They each have their next fights lined up and Arum seems pretty intent on doing Lopez-Marquez 2 next but after that this fight is ready. Waiting too long can have problems: Someone loses, moves up in weight(Like Lopez has hinted), or interest simply goes elsewhere. Late 2011 or very early 2012 this fight needs to get made before something goes wrong.

If they fight now it's gonna be on regular HBO or Showtime, or have a ppv with 100,000 buys. He's selling these guys right, let them clean up their division get string mainstream following.
If these guys fight now and one guy gets mauled, he gets sent back to the minors. Bob makes these guys recognizable to casual fans then the loser still gets a chance to redeem himself off name recognition. Great marketing and promoting. If you're a fighter you have to look at this as very positive. he's looking out for both his guys best interests, as well as his and their pockets.

Who said anything about applauding? Promoters are businessmen, boxing is a business first and foremost. The best ones know exactly what it takes to get the most out of their fighters maximising what the promoter AND fighter earn. I'd also point out that legacy wise a delay won't hinder how the fighters are viewed.

Again I ask ppv and gate numbers, this is important to my point.

Arum knows exactly what he's doing, he'll have a plan A,B & C for his fighters.
Pretty arrogant to assume we the boxing fans know what's best for the sports top promoter wouldn't you say? He's the guy with the numbers, projected numbers, the plan.

If they fight now sure you and everyone else gets their fill, but what about the casual fans who won't buy because they have no clue who either are? Those people need to be reached, a fight like this would do wonders for the large casual base.

Just be patient, it'll happen, and when it does it'll be bigger and better than right now.

Look at our recent cash cows.. Hoya, Floyd, Pac. These guys were all built by Arum, this is not a coincidence. He might be a greedy sob, but he makes stars, makes huge events, and he makes his fighters a shitload of money..
