WTF are you rambling about, there isn't a history of very popular Cuban fighters in the US. I didn't say that Gamboa is ducking anyone but they are refusing to make Gamboa-Lopez and instead they are opting for 'building up the fight' They haven't built up nothing and if they really want to hype up the fight for 2010 then they have to fight John, Rojas and even Caballero.

 

Actually you don't know $hit, the first and most popular Latino fighter at the time, was Kid Chocolate, after him Luis M. Rodriguez, Florentino Fernandez (the first fighter to koed jose Chegui Torres), Kid Gavilan, Benny Kid Paret, Ultiminio Ramos, Mantequilla Naploes, ( he became a mexican citizen, after 1959), and others, with the revolution Castro ended all professional sport in Cuba, that is why you haven't c much Cuban athletes on the professional ranks, in the past 50+ years, but things are changing, and as you are witnessing, more and more are defecting, to every sport.

 

Great, thanks for stating the obvious. Those fighters were around 50 years ago, that is not enough to convince me that Gamboa and the new defectors will become stars at the level of current Mexican/Puerto Rican fighters.

My whole point was that it won't make much of a difference if they wait another year to build up the fight.

 

And agree with you that waiting, is a waste of time, and probably one of them, if not both, could bite the dust and say good bye to the superfight.
And you didn't get my point, if we have good fighters before, without any boxing school per say, why not now, with better foundation than before.

The garden, the last time I was there Pedro L. Vilela dec. Marlon Starling, was the same night Hearns koed Duran. I can't remember if Resto and Collins fought that night too.
