In the present climate the Ring belt carries enough clout to outweigh any issues regarding the 4 alphabet straps. Calzaghe is regarded as the No 1 light heavyweight through holding only the Ring belt. If Pavlik beat Calzage at 168 he'd be univerally regarded as the divison's no. 1 above any other belt holders. That's why Arum has been saying that Pavlik (160 Ring champ) could make history and be seen as the No 1 across 3 divisions if he beats Calzaghe (168 and 175 Ring Champ)
They count to me too and I'm not saying it's right but Calzaghe-Hopkins wasn't for a major alphabet strap and that didn't make it any less of a fight in the media's eyes. I would still like to see Calzaghe gain one of the 4 major light heavyweight belts myself but in this day and age it doesn't seem to be a deciding factor in making certain fights happen
I "read" that Hoya/Mayweather made $19 million live gate while Calzaghe/Kessler made $14 million live gate which aint small potatoes "if true"
this is crap****, why would joe still rely on warren when he is a big name enough to call his own shots. Why can't he just leave warren? Too much bond between them? C'mon this is his suppose to be last fight, it needs to be someone like pavlik for people to remember
I've refrained from posting anything about the Calzaghe-Pavlik "ducking" issue, so I'll at least throw it out there once and only once until we hear something really concrete: This is the same thing Joe did when he "slow-played" Kessler. When negotiating with Hopkins, he did the same thing. He routinely gives the appearance of going in a completely opposite direction, and then the fight people want to see eventually winds up getting made anyways once there's enough of an outcry that Warren and Co. know they'll make their cash. Throwing out the feelers to Roy and getting that possibility published just gives them a chance to measure the potential marketability of both fights by feedback before either is actually signed. I'd legitimately be surprised if he doesn't fight Kelly Pavlik. Once the demand for Pavlik vs Calzaghe goes from a simmer to a boil, the fight will get made.
JC won't fight Pavlik. He sounds scared to me. He may be a brilliant boxer but JC also talks out of his arse. He should never have mentioned Pavlik in the first place if he didn't have any intention of fighting him. The 'I don't think Kelly Pavlik wants to fight me' comment is total garbage. Everyone is calling for this fight apart from JC, if he was so confident that he would beat Pavlik he would take the fight. Big money and big cuedos to boot.
The whole point is for Joe to come off both as scared and as a jackass, so when he eventually takes the fight, he has something to rally against to motivate himself- IE, "everyone thought I was a coward, so I'll show them". It also sells the fight because Joe will come off as a typical European elitist villain to the casual US fan. You and I know that Pavlik vs Calzaghe would be a great fight, but if they're going to sell this to a mainstream audience, they need someone to step up and say inflammatory **** so more people get interested.
Well see how unhappy Warren is once they counted all their money from this fight! What now Arum and Warren are close ? Get the F out of here !Kelly should worry about cleaning up the division he's currently in then worrying about a what if !
If you were really as stupid as this post, you wouldn't be able to type. Why the **** is it so hard for you guys to understand the facts! Calzaghe called Pavlik out incesantly. AFTER Pavlik said yes on the record at least 3 times Joe claimed Kelly doesn't want to fight him. He also stated as recently as last January that RJJ is not a great fighter anymore, that he wanted Pavlik. What the **** is wrong with you?
