Whatever you just said, doesn't change the fact that Marquez, despite all the song and dance, isn't considered a property worth investing promotional money on unless he's fighting Manny Pacquiao.

 

Pac was already the biggest draw in boxing outside of ODLH before he and Floyd fought ODLH.

He was well on his way to becoming a superstar, what was holding him back IMO was the weight. He was breaking PPV numbers south of LW but IMO probably the biggest numbers you can achieve being a LW. IMO even if he didn't fight ODLH and still beat the same opponents thereafter, he would probably be nearly just as big as he is now. Then again, his ODLH win got the ball rolling and I dont think he would have ventured into WW in the first place were it not for that fight.

The big purses seems to come at WW+

"Guarantee"....meaning that's his "take home". Who ever PAC has to pay out of that is what it is.

 

Simple.....Floyd stands to make MORE than he's ever made by fighting Manny as well. BOTH men are in a position where they have equal pull in negotiations based on how many PPV buys they've produced in the fights they've had. Just because Floyd thinks $40 million withOUT ppv upside is a good deal for Manny...doesn't mean it's actually a good deal for this kind of fight. That kind of offer is one that companies make when they don't want to do business.

 

Without a named opponent PAC still generates BIG PPV numbers. With Josh they generated over 750K in PPV buys in the US.

With Tim PAC generate just under 900K in US PPV buys....those are great numbers for being a one man show. It's similar to Floyd's numbers without having a big name for a dance partner. The ortiz fight generate around 1million in US PPV buys..

 

Yep, 26mil is the guarantee, if ppv does more, Pac gets more. In the end he could be getting over 30mil.

Posted this in another thread as to why the split between Floyd-Pac shouldnt be that huge.

The way I see it is this:

Floyd average PPV not fighting Pacquao: 1-1.4mil
Pac average PPV not fighting Floyd: 1-1.3mil

Floyd-Pac PPV: 2.5-3mil+

Basically, neither guy is gonna generate over 1.5mil buys outside of each other. When Floyd fights Pac its not gonna make 3mil PPV because Floyd is in it, it's not gonna make 3mil PPV because Pac is in it, its gonna make 3mil because BOTH are in it.

It is therefore obvious that the huge ppv buys are a result of a combined effort, not necessarily just the fans they each bring to the table but NEW fans that will watch it just because of the event, which can only happen if both are on it.

So if its a combined effort and the numbers can only be generated if both are on, why isn't the split equal, or at least close to it?

 

He outsold PBF with Pac-JMM, Pac-Mosley reportedly did 1.3mil which is similar to Floyd-Mosley when pac fought him Mosley was a lot less marketable.
