THE BOBFATHER STILL LOATHES BEST MIDDLEWEIGHT FIGHT
    By G. Leon

GL: A lot of heat on Boxingtalk about the Pavlik-Wright fight. Has you positioned on the bout changed any? "The type of money that he'd want is out of sight...GL: (cutting in) Did you know that Winky Wright told me that he's willing to offer Pavlik the lion's share to make the fight happen? "F**k the lion's share! Look, right now we're looking at different fighters.

i like reading boxer`s interviews and promoters manger`s take.

i do not like greg leon`s style though.
personally some of them should take him down a pegg or 2, he is getting to full of his own self importance.

To say otherwise would be kidding yourself

EDIT: Title says ARUM is scared of Winky. Not Pavlik...

The interviewer has an agenda, as does Arum. You don't like the fact professional boxing is a business? So be it. If Arum works it right, a Winky fight would be worth more early next year. A win for both fighters. Plus, what Winky says and what HIS promoter does could be two different things. Quote: "The type of money that he'd want is out of sight..." So, money has been discussed. Obviously at a serious level. Why take this article as gospel. People here have posted that Winky has priced himself out of fights before, so this comes down to who you would rather believe? No?

Also. Arum had a deadline. That may be the most important thing right now. He can negotiate with lesser names much quicker because he can dictate the terms.

It don't seem like they talked about the money for this fight yet with Winky. It sounds like Arum is saying Winky will price himself out of the fight. It sounds like and indication from Bob Arum and the interviewer countered saying Winky would take Kelly.

How generous of Winky Wright, a guy with no box office power and a boring style. But he's going to give the dynamic, middleweight champ the lion's share!!!

    What a clown.

My bad. I missed the 'd. But these guys could have had some prelims. He knows what the market is. Problem is still, this interview was an ambush. Done properly, we may have found out something worth while from it.

I honestly think that Winky is about the worst fight that Pavlik could make. Arum is fully aware of this. Pavliks style plays right into what Wink wants.

Who wouldnt want to see a fight between Pavlik and Winky??

Of course its a terrific fight and a toss-up fight at that. Actually, I would probably make Winky the favorite.

But, as I wrote in my Blog yesterday - June 7 is going to be about Kelly Pavlik. Top Rank is taking him out for a spin and seeing if they have a Ferraro or a Mustang.

Thats why they wanted John Duddy.

Why shouldnt Pavlik get an 'easier' fight for a first defense?

He is going to fight an 80-20 fight for a few million $$$. Or, fight a 50-50 fights for only a few $$$ more?

This is business. He probably fights on June 7, then in the fall against Duddy and then will be in a major fight in December or early in '09.

Good post and Winky-Pavlik is a good fight, I think I'd take Pavlik though. As for that schedule, it looks like a good one and one that makes sense. As long as he fights a Winky or Abraham late 08 or very early 09, than he can fight June 7 and squeeze in as many "easy" fights as he wants. If a champion is going to be busy he is going to fight more easy fights than a champ who fights once or twice a year.

Perfect world in boxing? Everyone fights mega-fights, every time out -- but Pavlik is still young and they are going to try and make him a superstar.

If he looks real good winning on June 7 and then in a bout with Duddy in the fall, more fans will be waiting for him come the end of the year and he can support his own show.

Again, Top Rank is in this as a business and they are going to do what's best as a business.

And in his 5th defense he fought Pavlik. Say what you want about Taylor but he has consistenly fought the best. On the flip side to a Pavlik-Taylor competition comparison, Pavlik went down a tougher road to get to his title shot than Taylor. Miranda was better than anyone Taylor fought pre-title, Zertuche and Zuniga may have been as well. But, yeah, Taylor set a high bar for defending against the best.
