WTF was Arum and Top Rank thinking by putting Donaire in the ring with Narvaez? I mean really, this guy is a flyweight, had no business in the ring with Donaire due to size. I mean really, NOBODY demanded this fight and it had the opposite effect of trying to Make Doniare a bigger star. In fact, this may have set him back quite a bit as it was one of the WORST fights on HBO in some time (and that's saying something). I think Arum purposely did this to **** Donaire's career and punish him for trying to leave. Putting this kind of fight on in NYC of all places is a sin!! Now Arum makes himself correct in saying Doniare doesnt have star potential, even though it's Arum's fault that his career has stalled. BULL****!!!:deal
Donaire got an old small man...and looked pedestrian and boring against him. He should have gone to the body MUCH more, bring the arms down and the such, change styles and show he's a P4P fighter...he failed to shine.
Overall, it was just a bad match-up. I think we will get much much more entertaining fights from Donaire once he moves up.
I don't think it's easy to find fighters who wanna fight Nonito. He'll ****up your career plans. Look what he did to Montiel. If Arum gives Nonito the Arce fight, he'll be giving a bone that will help his marketability. most competitive option for Nonito is the Rigo fight.
What gets me is that their top choice besides Narvaez was Moreno, who would have made this just as boring and ugly a fight.
How is this Arum's fault? Donaire is rusty and hasn't fought in over 6 months. Him not performing well has nothing to do with his promoter. It's Donaire's fault that he didn't look good. It didn't look like he trained much for this fight judging by his fighting shape. It doesn't matter who he's matched up against, it's up to him to dominate and look good.
That debacle was not Donaires fault, Navarez came to stink it up and survive. There's only so much you can do against an opponent like that. Oh yea, Arum DOES suck.
Arum does do some weird ****,pavlik vs hopkins, same thing ,its like he tries to sabatage their careers.
My contempt for Arum's matchmaking was all I kept thinking about as tonight's fight progressed. I hope the fans heckling chants of "this is bull****" embarrassed him to the point that maybe he'll revise his smug self serving agenda and be more proactive in future co-promotions in an effort to make better fights.
