DUBAI in the oil-rich United Arab Emirates is being mentioned as the possible venue for the megabuck fight between Ring Magazine pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao and the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach started the talk when he reportedly suggested that May 5, the date picked by Mayweather, remains a possibility, although both Pacquiao and his promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank believe a late May or June 9 fight date would be the best.

Mayweather is supposed to begin serving his 90-day prison term on June 1.

However, Arum indicated he was ready to go before judge Melissa Saragosa and request that she push back the incarceration date so the fight, which the world wants to see, can take place.

The belief is that the judge, who postponed Mayweather’s incarceration from Jan. 6 to June 1 to allow him to keep his contractual obligations for a May 5 fight, is likely to grant the request.

Although Mayweather indicated he wanted the fight to be held in Las Vegas, Roach was quoted as saying: “Dallas would be the best place to put on that fight in the US, because you could get 100,000 people in the Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Texas, but Dubai is the best, money-wise.”

Roach also revealed: “There were negotiations with people from Dubai. I met with a group of people, who were negotiating with Pacquiao’s financial adviser Michael Koncz.”

Roach is also aware of the fact Koncz had met with a member of the Royal Family last year, even as there were rumors he had met again with a representative some time later in the year.

Reporter Ramona Ruiz of The National newspaper told Manila Standard that the possible choice of Dubai as the site for Pacquiao-Mayweather “is all over the news” and that the large Filipino community in the UAE was extremely excited.

“Filipinos in the UAE are excited and optimistic. Pacquiao will definitely get the support of more than 500,000 Filipinos in the Emirates,” Alan Bacason, president of the Filipino community in Dubai and the Northern Emirates said.

    wtf :nut:nut

the judge postponed the fight the first time around because the fight was scheduled for the MGM in las vegas... with the potential to earn HUGGGEE revenue into the state of nevada

this is the first report im hearing of may 5th actually being "considered" by arum which is a step in the right direction

I do not see the judge allowing this, she cannot let clowns make it a circus.

Unless the fight is in Vegas, the judge will not grant the extension. Tax revenues generated for NV would be the only reason for her to extend the jail time.

Honestly, that shouldn't be hard to get around.

Do a calculation on what the tax fees are likely to be and then make an arrangement to provide that money (or some portion of it) to Las Vegas and/or Nevada.

If Dubai really wants the fight, I'm sure some kind of compensation for Vegas/Nevada can be worked out. As long as the judge will play ball.

So let's get this straight, without actually contacting Mayweather, Golden Boy or Al Haymon, Arum is going to ask a judge to roll back Mayweather's sentence, yea I can see that working Bob

Yeah, like asking the judge to roll back the sentence for May 5th without letting Team Pac know that's your plan?

    :rofl:lol:

Yeah, I can see that working, Team Mayweather.
