they won't get him. Salido will ride that win over Loma to the end of his career, knowing that if he takes the rematch most of that magic would disappear.
Its smart of him and what he should do. Anyone can watch the fight and see what happened and i doubt many people who are real fans of boxing think or ever thought he could win a boxing match against Loma by being the better boxer. But its Loma who truly values his legacy and far more than purse and has the type of pride to give in to wild delusional demands to pacify it.
The question is what does he need more at this stage of his career: that magic or a big purse. Salido understands quite well that if, for example, Loma beats a big name like say Mikey Garcia, who will care much about Salido?
We’ll see if bob wants to pay Salido. He lowballs everyone then claims they duck his guys whom he’s screwing.
It's what keeps him in the public minds. They can't pay him too much because Arum is not in the business of losing money on it, unlike PBC or ROC. I don't know what his price would be in this case, but his actions thus far really indicates he doesn't fancy it.
I think it may be more of a pride and money thing with Salido. Salido's a warrior. He's not afraid of losing. But he's not getting the respect he deserves here. He's got a chance to make good money and that's what he wants to see, or no fight.
It's about money and nothing else. Salido has four wins in his last 8 bouts. Miguel Roman has like 70fights and i never heard of him before he got ice'd by Miura. This old mexican needs to get paid. Loma is not necessarily the best financial opportunity. Loma would be the toughest to beat - probably impossible at this stage to decision him. He's the number #1 challenger to Berchelt and he has a punchers chance with this guy at least - even if the money is slightly less, it's probably the better bet. He should probably target paperface Linares - also an easier , more lucrative fight where he has a punchers chance.
Logical fight for Arum to pursue. Erase the one blemish on Loma's resume and set up the move to 135 for his other star boxer in his stable. First things first.....Loma needs to focus on what is immediately in front of him in Rig. That's not a fight they can look past. I know most believe it's a stepping stone for Loma but Rig has the ability to upset the apple cart. I don't see it happening but there's always a chance that a boxer with Rig's style, skill and craft to pull off an upset.
Salido already beat him, A Loma win over Salido will mean nothing right now, Salido is older and has been in tons of brutal wars, Loma already had his chance and blew it!
I think Salido is a kind of boxer with the mentality that he can beat anyone.....plus the money aspect would be too tempting to pass up. I don't think Salido will play it safe and just ride the win over Loma if there's a real offer on the table. It will be interesting to see how he looks in his next fight that's coming up. Hopefully he looks great to help tee up the long awaited rematch. I know Loma is itching to have another go at Salido and erase the sole loss on his record
The loss to Salido didn't hurt Loma in the slightest. It actually helped him answer questions most fighters on this level fail to answer until much later in their careers. The fact that Salido was a world champion, came in over weight and held a sizable weight advantage that Loma had to overcome spoke volumes about his mentality. Loma could have opted out because Salido failed to make weight but the ambition and confidence this kid had didn't think twice about going through with the fight in only his 2nd pro bout. The experience, size and fouls was a tall order for Loma at that point but he still came on strong late, almost turn things around by getting stoppage against Salido but there just wasn't enough runway left. A split decision loss was not as bad as getting blown out or getting hurt or knocked down numerous times. That experience was good for Loma. Losing early on in his career is better than losing later in his career after he's polished his professional boxing style and established himself as a p4p champion. Salido has a fight coming up....if he looks good, the rematch would make a lot of sense for both of them. If Salido looks bad, then it may not do either of them much good to get back in the ring together.
Man, Salido was over by 2 pounds that does not make a big difference. It's the fact that the Ams made Loma a points fighter and that does not work on a brawler at all. He seems to have learned from it but his defense is still not up to par which will be his undoing against Rigo if he does not tighten up. He knows it. Just look at his face against someone thats not as skilled as Rigondeaux and think of what a boxing surgeon like Rigo could do to that cut alone over 36 minutes. He would look like the movie Hostel at the end. This content is protected
