De La Hoya dragged Pacquiao up to welter from lightweight, in the same year he fought at super featherweight. Oscar only had to lose 3lbs from his previous fighting weight. It's probably the most hi-profile cherry pick of all-time, especially since it backfired so spectacularly.

Had Oscar won he would've received no credit. If he wanted to fight at 147, he should've been fighting the top welters Margarito, Cotto, Paul Williams, Mosley. He instead wanted more popular little guys like Pac and Hatton. It wasn't about the challenge, like yoou're trying to make it, it was about the easy money for Oscar at that stage. Fair enough he was old, but stop the bull**** that he wasn't cherry picking.
