No, that's not what I was saying at all.

I was saying that Mayweather didn't have the power to hurt Margarito, and Margarito had the style that would put Mayweather in a life or death type of scenario.

That's why Mayweather ducked Margarito. Mayweather doubted his own ability to affect Margarito with his punches.

He knew if he couldn't get Margarito's respect, he would be in a war, which is why he retired for two years, and let other people take his money while he sat on the side lines.

I am "swift/no power" and I wouldn't sacrifice that for the other.

Having power is always great. The thing that makes boxing great is that you can be losing 35 minutes and 50 seconds of a fight, but you can still win... Can't pull that off without power

That's one way of looking at it.

The other way to look at it is that being slow and hoping to land a magic punch after losing for 35 minutes and 50 seconds of a fight really makes you no different than any other tough guy/bum off the street stepping into the ring.

If you have speed (and especially 'skills'), you greatly diminish your chances of being in that position.

I only spar with friends so no official amateur or anything remotely close by any means.

I weigh 138-143 consistently and have for years. When I work out and try to cut weight I've gotten down to 122 on the dot before and when I work out to gain mass I've gotten to a cut 153 but couldn't keep it on long at all; it killed my body to get there.

I think at the lighter weights power isn't as important. It's still good to carry some at any weight thought. I fought at heavier weights, was quick and agile, but only have average ( at best) power. Given the choice I would have sacrificed some speed for extra power

That defeats the purpose. What if, even with speed and boxing skills, you are still losing 35:50 of a boxing match? What then?

You lose, all of your momentum dies, and you have to spend your next few fights rebuilding your career.

Boxing skill or no boxing skill (baring in mind that the OP never said the slow puncher didn't have boxing skill, nor did he say the speedy fighter did have boxing) doesn't matter, cause 1 good punch can bring you into super s****om, even if only for a second...

Meanwhile you can be the best p4p boxer out there, if you're not producing KO's you could just as easily be the least watched fighter out there... Ask Sweet Pea

EDIT: Wow, I can't believe the word Super-star-dom gets censored just because it has the word "t-ard" in it...

Yes, but Paulie is not what I woukd call elite!! He is a great skillful boxer with solid wins...solid champion, but not elite...

    Couple of things:

One, the OP specifically affiliated 'skills' with the 'speed' part of his question. While this is not to say that the 'power' fighter was without skill, it does clearly imply that the 'speed' fighter in this hypothetical did have skill.

Two, if a skilled fighter gets beat for every minute of every round, in all likelihood he is just getting beat by a better fighter. That happens.

That is a lot different then a slow(er) fighter spending an entire fight getting outhustled/dominated while trying to land a game changing punch. Sometimes it comes too late (see Chavez Jr/Sergio Martinez). Sometime it never comes (see Pavlik/Hopkins or Lacy/Calzaghe). I would argue all those fighters' career stalled in major ways after the world saw them flailing at air while getting their ears boxed off.

Lastly, this is the first time I've ever seen being Sweet Pea-like in the ring be framed as a negative.

I didn't call Paulie elite either. But you treated him as if his career included no real accomplishment due to a lack of pop, when that is clearly not the case.
