The fight went exactly as I expected.. even better then I expected for 11 1/2 rounds. Jr.. lookin like a lost kid at a grocery store. HOWEVER... Besides being shocked at Martinez almost getting KOed, I have to say I was impressed with the way chavez was able to mentally adapt and overcome his own confusion and hesitancy by round 8 and on. How many examples where top fighters cant or won't pull the trigger? Dawson vs Ward, Taylor vs Spinks, Judah vs Khan, Bute vs Froch, the list goes on forever... It's easy for us on the sideline to watch these guys and criticize when we see what happens externally, when we are not going through the experience, dealing the mental shields these guys might have developed from being vunerable and laying it all on the line for the world to see. but this silver-spooned mother ****er dug deep shook off the humiliation, learned, and took action and risk WHILE the experience was still happening. It is rare and uncommon and automatically sets him apart from most fighters .. a quality needed to not just make noise in the sport but even some day become great. But it sure ain't happening without more disciplined training. ALSO Martinez's knee obvious was damaged during the knockdowns at the end... i don't know why that isn't more obvious. The left hook to the side of the head made him lose equilibrium and his knee landed awkwardly, and afterwhich he couldn't even set to throw punches. And I am a firm believer he can come back from this injury.. everyone that keeps mentioning his age like it holds meaning, all you people must be out of shape eating like ****. That is just the number of years he has been alive, not the condition his body is in or the way it will adapt and heal itself. I think Martinez returns at 100%. Age is truly just a number if you are living a healthy/active lifestyle much less are an ELITE athlete.
Junior did it for me Saturday night, I'm not any longer a detractor( I wasn't a hater) The kid came to fight using his weapons, heart and strength against a superior boxer.
I've always been a fan. he took on the best and lost, big ****ing deal! Dude had the balls to get in there.
I don't like the kid much but facing the best is what boxing is all about, I give him credit for the effort.
