for me this fight was really dissapointing.. kessler was too predictable.. he didnt really mixed it up, while being the physically stronger guy, we had to wait half an hour before he jumped on sartison, anf finished him. his jab, while throwing it, was working really well, but after connecting or missing, his left hand was hanging low, exactly what was taylors doom versus pavlik, and what he was being critisized for. i cant believe i wasnt adressed in the fight. its almost embarrasing, that the tactical smartness was so bad. it was said before the fight, kess would be more american, going for the glory, more entertaining, but yet to me, just didnt do enough. why wait til the final seconds of the final round.. the main point im making, why doest he assert himself, he was bigger, stronger.. he should from the get go, demand respect, and he simply doesnt do that by only throwing the left jab continuesly. his right should follow the jab, with musc more variety. the uppercut shoud have been used much more, or the right hook the body. why not just go out there, mentally and physically show im the champ, and show the opponent what he has coming.. and im horrified by his inside fighting antics.. whats he doing.. rough him up mikkel, show him whos the man:smoke yes sartison was much much better then expected, feinting, good footwork and surprisingly good power, but kees should have done better.. there just seemed to lack something, some aggression and killerinstinct.. he did okay, but okay is simply not good enough, when facing a fighter like sartison.
The jury's still out on Kessler. When he fights some of the bigger SMWs and shows he can handle slicker and unorthodox boxing styles, then I'll be ready to proclaim him heir to Calzaghe's thrown, but it's still too early. Bute, Taylor, eventually Pavlik, all await.
I agree that it was not a spetacular performance by Kessler. A long lay off and working with a new coach could be the reason for it. I think you miss the point somewhat when you suggest that Kessler should enforce his will by being the bigger and stronger fighter. Being bigger and stronger is not always an indicator to who can control a fight, Kessler is not an all out attack kind of fighter, and he is enforcing his will by staying behind his constant jab controlling the fight.
Hey. I am one of the biggest Kessler fans around. And I can say. If Kessler fights like he did against Sartison, you are more than correct.
I am a dane also, and I am sorry to say that Mikkel lacked SPEED!!! He will NOT beat Pavlik or Taylor this way. He needs to step it up, or I am gonna loose faith in him. This was like 80 percent of his Andrade or Beyer performance. He looked different yesterday
Nice thread. I was just asked in another thread if I even watched this fight for not singing Kessler's praises after this fight.
This will be an interesting fight Kessler-Pavlik. I dont know why Kessler is still fighting these guys, get some names in there. Abraham or Pavlik would be a good start.
Abraham and Pavlik are still middleweights and working out details for a fight between them. This looks like a done deal, but you never know till the ink is dry. Why are SMW fans always looking to the MW division for opponents? Cal calling out Kelly the day after he won his title?:?
No you was asked whether you thought Locket was on the same level or better than Sartison because you compared the two fighters :good
Pavlik is a huge MW anyways so I dont think that matters too much. IMO MW and SMW can mix it up really easily without problems in the weight gap, history shows it pretty well.
As a dane, I think your post stinks. It is very evident that you havent seen the fight proberly. He did way more uppercuts than he has every done. He controlled the fight against a live and dangerous opponent. What do you want? 3 round KOs? He met a good fighter with a very good chin, and great heart. Thinking that Bute will give Kessler any trouble whatsoever makes me sick to my stomach concerning the danes knowledge. It is even doubtful that Bute will get past Andrade, and we all know how well he fared against Kessler. He will chew Pavlik and Abraham within the same month if need be.
As a boxing fan I came out of this fight wanting to see Sartison again. I thought he was actually quite good. Nothing stellar, but a good solid fighter.
