As a Floyd fan I admit that was a cheap KO.

How are they "free shots" when the fight is resumed? Do you think Trinidad is classless for decking Mayorga when he put his hands down? Wasn't that a "free shot?"

There are tons of examples throughout boxing history of guys lowering their hands during a bout, for whatever reason, and getting knocked out. Those fighters are not called "cheap shot artists" so why is Mayweather?

And waiting for the referee to DQ him? Really? Do you know how much damage you are risking by allowing him to headbutt you some more? Floyd saw an opportunity to end the fight, legally, and took it. Ortiz showed zero class in the ring and deserved to be sent packing. I fail to see how anybody can dispute that.

If it was legitimately an accidental headbutt, people would have a case. Given the circumstances and the lack of class shown by Ortiz in the ring by resorting to dangerous intentional headbutts, I see nothing wrong with it, and neither should anybody else.

How are you going to sit there and try to define what makes a real fan? Real fans of the sport have all sorts of different opinions. Mayweather was dominating that fight, and was getting stronger. Ortiz was so frustrated that he had to resort to cheating. He then let his guard down and got knocked out. One of the points of these fights is to see who's better. There's little doubt as to who is the better fighter based on what happened. That was a good win by Mayweather.

not that i disagree that it was a legal shot but your examples are not comarable. ortiz did not put his hands down in the middle of the fight as a taunt. it's a weird sequence altogether where he headbutted then completely turned the opposite by being too apologetic that it was sickening. he was so much so that he wouldn't bring himself back to fighting mode even if the ref motioned them to fight. it's just not comparable to mayorga or campbell dropping their hands.

    I'll say it again
Does anyone really want to see the fight continue after two people kiss and hug in the middle of the ring. WTF was Ortiz thinking!? Leave that tenderness for after the final bell please.
After all the tention and build up in the first 4 rounds, were we suppose to have a friendly battle for the rest of the fight. I'm sorry, but Mayweather kept it REAL! Ortiz was playing the nice role for the sake of the fans, after he slipped and showed his true colors with the head butt.

I'm saying that is just one example. There are a ton of other examples as well.

Let me ask you: How many times have you seen a fighter look at the referee to argue/say something, lower his guard, and then get hit/knocked out because of it? How many times on the break have you seen a guy take a step back with his guard down and get clocked?

This isn't some rare event. The only problem people have with it is because it is Mayweather. This has happened before and the other guys aren't called "cheap shot artists."

If it was truly accidental and an isolated incident, I could see making a case against Mayweather. However, that is not what was going on in the ring. Opportunistic or not, Ortiz deserved to be sent packing. Ortiz showed ZERO CLASS in the ring that night.

How many fighters would have been constantly complaining about the intentional headbutts and rabbit punches throughout the bout by Ortiz? Tons. Mayweather? Kept quiet and kept fighting. Now THAT is class inside the ring. All business and Ortiz should have already known Mayweather is all business in the ring.

Like I said: I am so disgusted by Ortiz, I never want to see him fight again. That stuff has no place in the boxing ring.

i'd rather the fight end the way it did, instead of winning by DQ, which is where the fight was headed anyway.

Of course it doesn't feel right. Think I wanted the fight to end that way?

Was it disappointing? Sure. It robbed of us of the natural KO that was sure to follow in the subsequent rounds.

Is Mayweather to blame? No. Ortiz is for turning it into a street fight with his intentional fouls. It was Ortiz who lowered his guard and tried to apologize to somebody he just left his feet to headbutt.

I mean seriously, who does that? "Yea, I just jumped in the air to knock your teeth through your lower lip, and now I am going to say sorry?" Really??? That apology was fake as can be, and I wouldn't have wanted anything to do with it either. **** that fool, seriously.

What is so frustrating is that Floyd was well on his way to another masterful performance. If he had just let it run its course people would now be talking about how great a boxer Floyd really is, and not how villainous he really is. And with Pacquiao's lackluster performance in his last fight, I think a majority of boxing analysts, including the Ring, would have installed Floyd as #1 P4P once again. And this development might just have piqued Pac's camp (including Arum) enough to actively seek a fight with Floyd.

Not even a pinch of blame on Mayweather for ending the fight that way? When it was he who ended the fight that way?
