As a GGG and Ward fan, I feel like GGG isn't ready for Ward

That is what makes the timing of the fight tricky. We've seen the expiration date past due on multiple fights when they should have been made. Pac vs May, Gamboa vs Lopez, Mares vs Garcia, Pirog vs Golovkin, Ward vs Bute, Ward vs Dirrell. In the past super fights like Tyson vs Tua, Lewis vs Bowe, Leonard vs Pryor, May vs Tszyu. GGG is in his prime now and in a few years might turn into Martinez having lucked out of getting any money fights in his prime.

Sometimes you miss out on a pay day for waiting too long. Golovkin is waiting to get Mayweather, Cotto, Canelo or Quillen. No one else near the division brings money or is tough enough. May and Cotto are too small and at the tail end of the careers to risk such a fight. Canelo and Quillen should step it up, but probably won't. Canelo is also trying to get the pay day with Cotto. The only one he maybe has a chance of fighting is Quillen and he doesn't want none of that.

The next best money fight is Ward who is willing to fight, GGG has a decent chance of winning and would definitely get praise for winning. He could also get decent money fighting Froch, Groves and possibly Chavez Jr.

I honestly don't think GGG is holding his breath for that fight. Although he keeps mentioning it being his dream fight-which is the same for any fighter around 154-I don't think he believes it to be realistic, or he would actually call him out instead of responding to reporters. I would like to see GGG fight Ward, all I want is to see Golovkin test the waters at 168 first. The problem with fighting Ward is how the teams will split the purse (I'd go into detail but that's been done at nauseum at this point). He is in a tricky situation, one of which I'm not sure what the best route for him to take is. It looks like he might get shut out of lucrative offers for the time being.

As a Ward fan I think he should take a few fights to shake off his inactivity before taking on someone like GGG.
    Good fight :good

He'll probably have at least another 2 or 3 fights before Ward gets back in the game.

I also don't think Andre would step straight to Golovkin with no tuneup- he'd need a fight himself to shake the rust off, just like when he took on Rodriguez.

I agree that GGG is not waiting specifically for Mayweather, but I'm sure it's in the back of his mind and hardcore fans are clamoring for it. It will never happen, but many boxers have waited with whatever slim chance existed. I believe he is more so waiting for Cotto and Canelo, before that Martinez.

I would like to see GGG against Quillen and Murray. I think they are the only challenges left at the weight class and I think Murray beat Martinez. As I recall Murray backed out of negotiations with GGG. Quillen has had common opponents and has shown to be the next best dominator at the weight class. However I also know these fights don't bring as much money and just waste GGG prime. Unless GGG's promotion team can put some serious pressure on Canelo or Cotto he is probably gonna luck out of money fights at 160. The main risk to his career is wasting his prime not getting decent pay days.

The other side of the risk in which I agree is that he needs to test the waters at 168. I think 160 is pretty much the perfect weight class for him. He weighs 172 on fight night I believe, so even if he could make 154, I think it'll just hurt him more than help. At 168 he might be on the small side, but he'll be faster than anyone and I think he hits hard enough and a very good tactician so I'm sure he will do fine. He has several fish he could fry at the weight class and might as well before they move on.

As for Ward, I think if he can't get the GGG fight, he could take on Groves or Degale for lesser money, but 175 is much more interesting and lucrative. Interesting how many champs are waiting around for smaller guys to come up in weight.

The thing is GGG haven't cleaned his own division but the thing seems not worth it and AL Haymond will anyway do his things: protect his hype jobs. So there is Ward at 168 who is undisputed since he let Froch do the dirty job (facing any threat in the division). Ward - GGG should up next, really. Ward could also go up in weight, but he is scared of the big guys. Ward as basically to option that are interesting to fans: GGG or Kovalev/Stevenson.

Any other fight than Ward is basically irrelevent for GGG since we all know he would smash Cotto, Alvares or Quillin.

So fans should ask for Ward vs GGG to see who is the best. It should be catch weight.

Nobody's ready for Ward. Nobody's worthy of Ward. That's why he fight Nobody.

Why would Golovkin fight Ward? Ward fights at Supermiddleweight and fought at light heavy as a kid in the Olympics where he won a gold medal. He is a big guy, Golovkin is a natural middleweight. We might as well ask Marvelous Marvin Hagler why he never fought Michael Spinks. Maybe because as great as Marvin was, like triple G he was a natural middleweight. If Ward is so determined to fight triple G let him trim down to middleweight and challenge him for his title at his natural weight. That would take real courage but Ward knows he would be slaughtered if he did that. Ward wants everything in his favor. Ward is a gifted boxer and articulate individual but has the mentality of a bully.

Me too. Too slow, too inaccurate, not accustomed to tricky elusive smart opponents.

    Exactly.

Also Ward is a prima-donna and will want all things his way.

GGG needs to clear out his own natural weight division.

Ward needs to get off his ass or he won't be ready for anybody.

At this rate he's going to need a tune up before getting in the ring with anybody serious again.

It's simple. GGG is in his 30s. And supposedly he has had over 300 amateur fights(which I didn't know about).

So of course IMO if he isn't ready now, he'll never be ready.

Good fight. Golovkins as ready as he'll ever be.

Making the fight, for a financial reward that's worth it to both fighters (assuming WArd ever gets back in the ring) is a different matter.
