I suppose as the previous poster stated, fighters can acumulate a lot of wear and tear in sparring thousands of rounds over the course of an amateur and pro career

What have you noticed about a top-notch fighter sparring -- up-close -- that you never appreciated on TV?

True One-Punch KO Power is difficult to grasp until you see it up close or experience it first hand.

Great thread as usual John. Most fighters I've seen don't use any kind of weight training except maybe for their necks. Ironic since its in a gym but with mma fighters I've seen its mostly the opposite. A lot of anaerobic is a higher priority for the mma crowd than it is boxers.

How fluidly elite professional boxers move. World ranked guys, and I mean anyone in any weight class, they move so much more gracefully in the ring compared to everyone else

Until you've been in a ring and sparred against average joes, and then sparred a professional, their ease of motion is not something you can grasp.

    this

that is one of the reason why the bruce lee vs professional boxer threads **** me off.

boxing is far more complicated than just throwing punches.

actually forget sparring pros, spar an elite amateur and spar an average amateur, the difference is very considerable

Getting hit by punches. Another thing that drives me ****ing crazy when guys blast fighters for being hurt because they got tagged with a huge shot.

Until you've been hit in the face by a flush straight right, shut the **** up. Im always impressed by guys who can just walk through punches, but there's no shame in being knocked down or knocked out by a powerful punch.

The human brain is not meant to be repeatedly concussed

I will say this does not excuse Khans loss to Presscot, because that **** was just embarrassing. That is only time I can honestly say I would have lasted longer in the ring than a professional fighter.

the sound and impact of a punch being landed on a person's face.

you don't hear it often from the television but live...its the greatest sound, next to a basketball swoosh, a golf ball being hit 400 yeards sportswise.

Can tell you've been through gym wars, R. Until you've sparred with a better amateur, or even a half-assed pro, ya can't grasp how vulnerable you are.
