The funky smell of a true boxing gym with blood stains in the ring and dirty old spit buckets.

The fight atmosphere, even at amateur shows, you know that buzz around people fighting.

That's a good one. The buzz is unbelieveable when you have two hyped up people with an evenly split crowd that is full of energy. Sometimes you can sort of feel the buzz through TV with big fights, but in person, even at amateur fights nothing compares to it.

How much discipline is required to become an elite boxer.

I remember being bored of just punching the heavybag as a teen.

These elite pros make that apart of their daily life for a career.

just how dificult it is to land a good shot on a good fighter who is ready.

In a gym a guy can hit a bag like a world champion but cant land anything in a ring but feeler blows. some fighters have range and some gym rats wont ever get it down.

The hard work & sacrifice going into training for a fight. the compleat dedication that a boxer must go through. What was the old saying? " For a 45 minute fight, a fighter must train 45 hundred minutes.

you get a much better sense of who is hitting hard when you are their...be it in the gym or a live show. You just cant get that with the TV...no matter how high def or how close the mics are to get the boom sound....

how much one fighter can set the tone for the whole gym. the gym i use to work at in johnstown, everyone went to the ribs due to our best fighter doing that...it because all of our signature body work shot. It was dumb, because looking back on it...i often went for the ribs when i could have dropped shots below the ribs.

another gym, 30 miles away, in altooona pa, was dominated by a fighter named Tommy Wilt..he threw a upper jab allot and all the beginers tried to do it as well.

as our gyms sparred more against each other.....we started to pick up features from each other.
