why not? whether you a margo fan or not, it was a damn good fight and a close one 2. which means, cotto is not out of the picture yet and he has great chances of winning the second, which means we may have a potential trilogy. first and foremost, i'm a fight fan, so i really don't care who wins as long as the 2 fighters who ever it might be put up great fights. you can come up with a thousand excuses about this and that but the fact remains of the performances they left in the ring. you just can't jump to conclusions

yea it's looking that way. he could be putting some money in the bank with an easy fight or 2 while getting more exposure and stayin busy while his management can come up with another superfight. i think it kinda depends on cotto as well if he's gonna have the rematch with margo it would make alot more sense than the fight with shane, but if cotto has other plans and not fight margo, then i think margo should fight shane if he's not going to fight cotto anytime soon.

I havent read every post on this thread but the way I see it.
    Put yourself in his shoes.

He fought Cintron the 1st fight and didn't really take alot of punishment
    and then 10 Months Later
He beat Gomez and didn't take any punishment
    and then 10 Months Later
He beat Clottey and took a considerable amount of clean head shots
    and then 7 Months Later
He lost to Paul Williams and took a considerable accumulation of head shots
    and then 4 Months Later
He Blitz through Golden Johnson and did not take any punishment
    and then 5 Months Later
He beat Cintron and took some clean hard head shots in that fight
    and then 3 Months Later
He fought a tough tough fight with Cotto and he took a lot of big head shots

and all I seem to be reading on here is why is he not rematching Williams...???

Well if you look at the pattern of punishment taken in each fight you will see that I think it was a very smart move to not rematch Williams straight away because I think he still needed time out because you got to remember that these guys are constantly taking shots when they are in sparring leading up to a big fight so I agree with the decision made for not rematching Williams straight away.

He turned down a rematch for $4 Million with Williams and took up an offer for $2 Million to fight a less risky fight in an ageing Mosley.

He needed this fight because it does make sense.
Sugar Shane is just as well known as Oscar to some degree in boxing circles and a win over Shane would look great on his resume and also he would probably not end up taking too much punishment in the process.
And if the plan was to give Cotto a rematch after the Mosley fight it would be for money reasons aswell as a chance for Bob Arum to redeem Cotto from the loss and to make himself more money by chucking Cotto into some more mega money fights in the future.

I think that this plan does make more business sense and for Margarito, it makes sense because his style is take punishment to give punishment and I think hard fights back to back can shorten your career much sooner and Arum knows this and probably senses that Margarito will start to feel the effects of all those hard fights sooner rather than later.

I dont know how many would agree but if I was a boxer and I knew that I had been struggling all of my career to hit the big time, I would grab every opportunity once I got there.

It is all about making sensible decisions to lenghthen his career because his style will lead to a very short one if he made the wrong choices now.

The other point I was going to make is that there is no rush for rematches,

I would rather see him clean out the division 1st than to go after the men who beat him, like Williams for example.

There is no need whatsoever to avenge the Daniel Santos 2nd fight loss because alot of people would definetly look at that fight and see that he was taking the fight over in the 2nd half of it.

If your a Margarito Basher you would think otherwise but if you are unbiased you can make a case for Margarito winning that fight.

I believe he will avenge his losses but right now it is all about cleaning up and making smart business decisions much like what Floyd has been doing for the most part of his career.

All boxers do it, just look at it from an unbiased standpoint and you will see that most boxers would take less risky fights if they knew that they would make more money and take less punishment.

As fans we want to see the best fights and I like to know that a fighter will take a risk in his career and that is how I gage how much respect I hold for that fighter and Margarito has definetly gained my full respect from taking risks in his career so if he wants to take an easy inbetween fight now and then, SO WHAT !!! He's already proved himself as a force not to take lightly and for those who are hung up on the Paul Williams fight,

I think the rematch could be made at 154 but in the meantime Margarito has business to take care of before taking care of Williams. He cannot look past Mosley or Cotto because even if Mosley is slowing it's not going to be an easy fight, its just a less risky fight.

I think Margarito will start to slow down after a second fight with Cotto but who knows.

I'm not a hardcore Marg fan....but definitley a fan. I think for Marg its a good look. There are a lot of Money fights that are coming to frution for him....since the PAC/DLH fight. Marg still has options with Paul...if he really wants it, but I think he will wait until the DEMAND is on full BLAST! He may have a fight with PAC....there is fights with Clottley, Cotto and he's about to take on Shane....a great who is still kicking. It's about Time MARG got "HIS".

I feel a little sorry for Paul right now only b/c he's far to dangerous and far to Risky for anyone to really want to make a fight with him at this point....he's feeling a lot of what Marg went through much of his career. But he's young, Talented and he's a champion! His time will come!
