I think he can make the weight without killing himself.

Except that he hasn't moved up and has stated he has no intention of going to MW

Then why didn't he fight Angulo and Lara at 154? If he beat Lara, he would've taken his belt.

I can understand Angulo because they were both coming in from a loss and it wasn't a big fight. Lara, on the other-hand, I can't understand because he's a belt-holder and it would skyrocket either fighter on the rankings (not sure anyone gives two fcks about it in this division though).

I'm sure Mikey Garcia thought the same, and he's older than Canelo. He's young and still very much growing.

Everyone criticizes the WBA for their multitude of belts. Perhaps they are onto something as someone like you, who posts on a boxing forum, actually thinks Lara's belt means something. Mayweather won The WBA title against Cotto. He succesfully defended it against Canelo. Mayweather has not lost or been stripped. So how is Lara a WBA champ in the same division? Lara's trinket is worthless. Canelo winning it does nothing for him. With that being said, fighting slightly over the limit in a non title fight is pretty normal. I think Canelo stays at JMW for at least the next few fights. Time will tell though.

You're thinking wrong. If he could make it without hurting his self he wouldn't have hurt his wealth by paying Angulo $100,000 to move up one pound.

He did move up, his fight with Angulo was at 155lbs and anything above 154 all the way to 160 is officially considered Middleweight.

It's officially considered MW. For practical purposes though, he's not a MW. His pool of opponents will come from 154 on down, and he will fight at the division limit if a real title is at stake.

He can fight at whatever limit with a Middleweight title at stake just as long as it's 154.1-160, the commission can't strip the title off nor penalize the fighters failing to meet the official weight requirements. I'm not sure about practical purposes, but he's definitely a Middleweight and he obviously plans to fight Cotto(the WBC and Lineal Middleweight champion) next if he beats Lara.

No, I believe you're thinking wrong. Canelo just pocket $12M+ against Mayweather. 100k is a drop in the bucket. Mayweather was lambasted for coming in overweight against Marquez. The reason he was criticized so heavily is because people thought he could've made the weight but didn't want to even try. Those people are right. Mayweather has made so much money that 600k is worth it for him to be as comfortable as possible. The same concept applied for Alvarez. There's no reason for him to sweat out that extra pound when he can just dole out 100k; a relatively small amount to him.

Again though, time will tell on this one. If I'm not mistaken, I believe you had similar doubts about my line of thinking when I said Khan would turn down a September fight with Mayweather for religious reasons. We saw how that turned out.

He's definitely a MW, despite the fact that he's fighting JMWs and despite the fact that he says he has no plans to move up? Ok. And I can pretty much guarantee you that Canelo won't be fighting Cotto in his next fight.

It's still a drop in the pocket that wasn't necessary if he was able to make 154 and still remain healthy. Why do you think his fight with Lara is at 155-156?

Whether he fights him or not is another discussion, Alvarez isn't going to fight at 154 anymore because he can't make the weight, that's my point. His fight with Angulo was a Middleweight fight, his next fight is a Middleweight fight and all fights following will be at Middleweight. Moving down is going to affect him because his body can't do it anymore and remain healthy. Fighters don't always move up because they want to, many times they do because they have to.

It's above the limit because it's not a real title fight. Pretty much every fighter has to sweat out he last lb. or two. Canelo is in a position where he doesn't have to do that. There is no real title on the line, and Canelo holds all the cards.

I'm sorry, but I believe you're making many inaccurate assumptions. Plenty of fighters fight a lb. or two over the division limit when there is no real title on the line and when they are not concerned about climbing the rankings. And I know damn well that some fighters move up because they have to. I do possess some common sense. Speaking, of common sense, it would dictate that Canelo has no real incentive to fight this fight at the limit. At the end of he day, you could be right. However, I believing you're off base by dismissing the possibility that you're wrong.
