You fail to mention that Bute was offered to participate in the tournament but refused in order to fight his mandatory in a rematch, in Andrade.

So it is not like Bute was shun'd, he was offered a deal and denied.
The winner of this tournament will emerge as the man to beat, lets not make any mistakes.

I love this tourney. I just think it gets hyped way beyond what it really is; 6 good fighters in a tournament. I have no problem being happy about that, and at the same time, maintaining my position that there are several fighters who are far more qualified to be there.

No, Bute was not offered a place in the tournament. Showtime even confirmed this when asked at one of the press conferences.

But it is still a quality field without him in it. Plus this leaves the potential for a mega-fight down the road if Bute is still undefeated after the Super Six winner is crowned.

 

Strange indeed, if so then Bute must have been tied to a deal with Showtime already, no?

Actually the Bute/Andrade rematch is on HBO.

Bute's matchmaker was insulted at the omission, but whether or not he would've participated if invited will never be known. I kinda doubt he would've joined... he's got a good thing going for him in Montreal, is already an established fighter on Showtime, and if he stays undefeated he stands to make a good deal of money in a mega-fight down the road with the Super 6 champ.
