An absolutely ****ing stupid idea. Why ? Because it's a lose - lose situation not just for anderson silva but for the credibility of the sport too. Why ? Simply because NO ONE in mma has RJJ's boxing skills. NO ONE. Hey nothing to be ashamed of , we could as well say that NO ONE in boxing has BJ Penn's Jiu-jitsu...Indeed , he'd own them all on the ground. we could say the same **** about Fedor..NO ONE in boxing , kickboxing and hell even mma...NO ONE comes close to fedor's level in the sambo department. Anderson Silva vs Jones is ****ing stupid because it's the equivalent of RJJ accepting a challenge under ADCC rules against the likes of Jacare , Nogueira , Arona , Werdum , Einemo , Roger Gracie...etc.. Only this ****ing ridiculous situation is reversed...instead we got anderson who will be forced to fight in RJJ's world. (boxing) It's not mma , not even muay thai or K1....it'll be under strict Queensbury rules . The result ? we're gonna have to deal with a mma champ getting embarrassed. It'll prove nothing. (well , actually it will prove something...that a professional top boxer can annihilate a top mma fighter under boxing rules). What are the odds of seeing anderson win this **** ? VERY slim...Just as slim as RJJ's chances vs Nastula or Yoshida under Judo rules.
If he wants to do it I say he should. Anderson Silva is an extremely special MMA fighter and if he wants to challenge himself, I am more than okay with that.
RJJ is an extremely special boxer as well.... Fedor emelianenko is even more special than anyone under mma rules. But do i believe for 1 second that even Fedor would beat RJJ under boxing rules ? **** no. Again , it's as absurd as saying that Tyson , Klitschko , Lennox etc....etc..Would beat Fedor under sambo rules. As ridiculous as thinking that Mayweather would gogoplata Nogueira's ass under ADCC rules....
it's a really lame idea, IMO but if anderson wants to do it, then he should. but it will be selfish of him if he does. he is slowly becoming the face of the ufc and he should really plan his next moves well
Even todays RJJ would humiliate Silva in a boxing match. The term embarressment was made just for such possibilities has Silva and RJJ fighting.
Is Jones a favorite? Yes. Is Jones a HUGE favorite? Yes. Would I ever bet a single dollar on Silva versus Jones in a boxing match? Probably not (depending on the odds, I might bet a few dollars.) Let's be real though. Jones is not half of what he used to be and Silva is probably the best he's ever been. If Silva thinks he can beat him I think he should get a shot.
Here is the answer to all of this. Silva makes about $300-400,000 per match in UFC. In a fight against Roy Jones he makes a minimum of $5 million. 'Nuf said. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LchpACY7ZVY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0o0c8fXHp-4&feature=related
Actually I'm a huge boxing fan and I think Jones is shot.If Silva lands a hard 1 on Jones Jones will go.
But that's a stupid arguement. To me that's like saying... "Let's be real though. Yoshida is not half of what he used to be and RJJ is probably the best he's ever been"... Still don't get it ?.... Imagine for a second....RJJ vs past prime Yoshida under judo rules. Would you still bet your money on a prime RJJ ? I wouldn't. RJJ being a shadow of his former self is irrelevant here. Anderson being in his "prime" won't change a thing. Boxing is boxing. Not mma , not K1 or muay thai... The reason why Anderson wins is not because he's a top boxer. The guy wins his fights because he COMBINES wrestling , Jiujitsu , boxing , muay thai.. NOT because he only uses his punches...if he'd be as "one dimensional" under mma rules , he'd be reduced into a can. Anderson under boxing rules is a disaster waiting to happen. If anderson feels that he "can" beat RJJ , good for him. He's got confidence , nothing wrong with that...but let's be realistic here...His pride is doing the talking not his brain. At least...that's the way i see it.
I mostly agree. I don't find your analysis wrong, and if I had to bet money on it, I think RJJ is very very clearly the very large favorite. Either way, what is Roy's next career move anyways? I don't think the trinidad fight is going to put him in line for another title shot just yet, and if this is an easy fight that will earn him a lot of money I think he should take it. Also, Anderson Silva can knock people out with punches. There should be no doubt that Anderson Silva is one of the best boxers in MMA at the very least. This fight gets to shed a little light to those who think that good MMA boxers can beat good single discipline boxers, and that is a plus (we have already seen a few times what happens when boxers try the transition to MMA, but we rarely see, and never at this high level of competition, what happens when an MMA fighter boxes.) Anderson can punch and he has no one to fight in his weightclass. Roy Jones needs to fight SOMEBODY and he probably doesn't yet deserve a title shot. This fight would be a spectacle that Anderson Silva fans and MMA haters would love to see, and SILVA can punch, so he does at the very least have a punchers chance. Also, your analogy isn't 100% correct. Silva comes from a Muy Thai background and Muy Thai is much more similar to boxing than Judo is. I'm not saying that this wouldn't be a bit of a freakshow fight, but freakshow fights, here and there, aren't necessarily bad for either sport. Besides the more noble goal of competition, the primary objective of both MMA and boxing is to entertain, and I would be more than willing to watch this bout.
I think the distinction between what is good for the sport, and what is good for someones wallet has been drawn.. Roy beating Silva is good for the sport of Boxing, as it will stroke the ego's of many boxing purists. At the same time, if Silva makes a good account of himself, and boxing purists are honest, he will get some respect.. There is also the aspect of Silva honestly believing that much in himself. I don't think Silva is going to not train and show up to be Roy's punching bag.. Silva will be in there trying to take Roy out. I think Roy will knock him out within 3 rounds, but Silva should have the right to do what he wants as a fighter. Also.. Lets remember.. Dana White talked all his **** about boxing and instigated this rediculous rivalry between these two great sports. He might believe his own hype, and be allowing Silva to do this for promotional reasons.. I think knocking Dana white down a few pegs won't be such a bad thing. He needs to be put in his place.
You are right.. There always has been beef between different forms of combat in general. Boxing and Wrestling has been one of the Americas for a long time. But, Dana stepped it up and started using the platform of MMA announcing via Joe Roegan, and himself to weigh in on how much better MMA is than boxing. This caused a **** storm in boxing, and on these forums. Instead of causing some sort of posative reaction, it just repulsed a lot of would be MMA fans away from the sport.. It's ok to like both, but Dana did himself and the sport no favors with people who are more along the lines of Purists who may have been interested in MMA.. Those people were likely repulsed by Dana White and Joe Roegan. I myself cringed at what they were saying.
well it's a golden opportunity for RJJ that's for sure (at this point in his career it is)...that fight is gonna be super hyped if it happens... as for my analogy...Look , i'm obviously not 100% correct. Nor can i predict the outcome of this ****ing fight. But let's be honest here...what are the odds ? A past prime RJJ under boxing rules ?...it's not gonna change a thing. and even though anderson's forte is "striking". muay thai is still muay thai. Again , it's the combo that makes the difference. substract the kicks , elbows , and you're left with a totally different fighter. Take K1 as the best example. Ignashov under Muay thai rules was one of the most dangerous striker in the biz...Same guy under K1 was handicapped. (though he still was great under K1) imagine Peter Aerts or Hoost (who used to rely a lot on low kicks) under boxing rules...it would be a catastrophe.
