I don't think Mack is that bad of a fighter and considering Froch has a big payday fight with Bute waiting I'd say Mack is an ok choice.

I don't think Mack is going to beat Froch but he'll put up a fight before Froch stops him, probably in the second half of the fight.

There's no way Froch was going to face someone like Pavlik or Bika before his fight with Bute and considering the run of fights Froch has been on he could fight a cab driver in this fight and it would be fine.

People are either underrating Mack or overrating Froch to act like this is a complete mismatch. Froch wins but Mack does ok, he's a decent fighter himself.

When your favourite fighter gets smashed like Bute did, you have to show respect for the opponent. Like Flashy KO, I do. Until the rematch. ;)

If any British fighter deserves a home town gift its Carl Froch

I know he wont look at it like that, but its essentially what it is, the meticulous pro that he is, he will prepare and despatch Mack accordingly

Let's get real here. This is Matchroom's gift to Carl and it's down to them, not him, that it's a fairly shitty opponent. This is the fight where Carl finally gets a home fight with a huge percentage majority and it's no secret they tried hard to get a better opponent.Does anyone really think Kessler was a possibility when the Bute rematch is signed?
Let's get a bit of perspective here guys.
And having followed Froch since well before he won a belt,I won't be in the least bit surprised if this fight turns out to be a lot harder than we all anticipate.Froch's ego and amazing ability to ignore McCracken could see to that.

If Froch fights Mack like he fought Glen Johnson, then he has a pretty easy night.

I'm not disappointed, and basically agree with the posts above. Everyone knew that this was going to be an easier fight with Lucian Bute on deck for early next year and with Froch's schedule the last several years, so it wouldn't be the appropriate time for a Kessler rematch (hopefully that happens after Bute).

Also, it's not like Yusaf Mack is a bum. He's just not an elite guy or a guy that has won a title. He has skills (though nothing amazing and nothing in particular that stands out) he just has a fatal flaw of having a terrible stamina. If he had average stamina he might have won a title at some point (not to say he would have been considered elite at 168 or 175 even if he was holding a title). As it stands, this a match that will be entertaining and I do believe Mack will win some rounds before likely wearing down within 9.

it should be a non title fight.... "due for any easy one" or "give the guy a break" doesnt have one thing to do with giving an unranked guy not even in the same weight division a title shot... a guy like GGG has chased sturm in his own division for 2 years and cant get a shot but this constitutes a title shot? if youre gonna fight a **** fight, fight a **** fight non title fight

 Really? I wonder if that was to replace Johnson? Mack was IBF's #6 at LHW before.

Looking at the IBF SMW rankings, it was probably clear that it was going to be hard to pull an IBF top 10 rated guy to fight when the talks with Oosthuizen fell through.

1 Not Rated-hard to fight a guy that doesn't exist.
    2. Adonis Stevenson- fighting in October
3.Edwin Rodriguez- fighting at the end of September
    4.Thomas Oosthuizen- negotiated...fell through
5.Lucian Bute- fighting him early next year
    6. James Degale- with 13 fights under him I doubt they'd accept
7.Mikkel Kessler-talked nothing serious came of it
    8. Kelly Pavlik- talked, nothing serious came of it
    9. George Groves-15 fights under him, doubt management would accept
    10. Glen Johnson- retired.

yeah that is slim pickings...... i would assume they can pick up to #15 , i just think it cheapens the title to fight a guy not in your division who wasnt even near the top of the division he was active in. considering he got stopped in all his step up fights....oh well...it it what it is

  15. i take it that Bute wants nothing to do with him in a rematch
