I don't buy the slapping thing. Calzaghe has had (not as much anymore) KO power, and Williams has shown KO power. Not one-punch power, but enough to earn respect. Margarito definitely did not want to eat those shots flush, and certainly not at that volume.
Money will throw up a hight guard like Winky Wright ( he did in the Judah fight) and walk the slapper down. Williams will get tire and frustated when he not having any effect on Money and he's beingcountered with pinpoint shots.
williams has 0 defense a weak ass jab/flick...his chin is always there to hit....and his accuracy is bad he just throws for pts..i doubt he'll hit floyd enough..he doesnt hit hard either...and i think his chin is suspect....he might be able to compete for 5 rds but then gets beat in a wide UD
Paul Williams has the height, reach, and punch output to give PBF his toughest fight ever and i've been saying this....because of PW's height, PBF will have to close the distance and he is not nearly as comfortable leading as he is countering....and PBF doesn't have the power to stop PW, who ate bigger shots from a much bigger fighter in Margarito....and PBF doesn't throw enough punches to keep up with PW, so i can't envision a way can be effective against PW, unless PW slows down late....
I also wonder whether Cotto could get to Floyd. I didn't give him much chance, actually, but the jab he showcased against Mosley might be his ticket. He would turn Floyd into the Baldomir Floyd, and maybe he could have more success coming forward. I'd still bet on Floyd in that one, though.
With all due respect Jim, I think the chip, perhaps, may be on your shoulder. You start a post 'Floyd loses to Paul Williams' less than 20 hours after he wins one the biggest fights of the decade. Then go on to say the Williams fight will never happen. One has to wonder why this thread was started in the first place if, indeed, as you stated, 'this fight will probably never happen.' Face it Jim, you are minimizing Floyd's great win. You should ask yourself why, and when you have that answer, please share it with us.
It's a hypothetical, like so many other hypothetical threads. I remember posting that Chad Dawson would defeat Calzaghe the day after the Kessler fight. It wasn't intended to be disrespectful, just a look forward. There literally are dozens of threads about the fight, if that's what you're looking for. The entire board doesn't need to become a virtual shrine to Mayweather or Calzaghe or anyone else. We're also discussing Williams vs. Cotto and other bouts. If that doesn't interest you in this great age of the WW division, I can't help you. I'm happy for Floyd that he won and that he seemed to earn a lot of new fans as well, but your idea for a mandatory silent period strikes me as quite bizarre.
SRL could adjust too, but that still didn't change the fact that Hearns was 6' tall with a long jab, with power....SRL didn't get going against Hearns until Hearns faded late, and that's only way i can see PBF beating Williams....but the problem with that is PBF doesn't have the power to stop Williams, who will have like 8 rds in the bag going into the 10th....i hope Williams starches the Ricans so we can see this fight happen because PBF would have to really dig deep to win against Williams....
I think Williams will outpoint Quintana, but I can't see him toppling Cotto. Hope I'm wrong on that score, because if Floyd found a way to overcome Paul's natural advantages, in my eyes it would significantly enhance an already-stellar resume.
By the way, I think SRL/Hearns is an interesting comparison. I guess maybe the difference I see is that Tommy had a better sense of distance and defense, but he gassed and had a vulnerable chin, and Mayweather doesn't hit as hard as Leonard. Give me Williams vs. Mayweather and Dawson vs. Calzaghe, and that'll be all I need for 2008. In my dreams, I know.
You don't need power to beat ur opponent....speed with defense kills and besides........ MONEY KNOW HOW TO ADJUST!!!
It's now evident that you have a major distaste for Floyd and you had to find a manner in which to dismiss his incredible victory. I can only assume that I hit a nerve and you can't really speak your mind due to your position. Who is talking about a virtual shrine or mandatory silent period? Jim, don't look now, but your chip is growing. It's unfortunate you can't express yourself freely.
