I wouldn't either. Silva is HORRENDOUS at boxing. What works exceptionally well for him in MMA does not translate in the slightest to boxing. Watch either one of his pro boxing bouts. He looked ridiculous. Everything he did was completely wrong. Even this version of RJJ tools him into 'bolivion'.

I don't know where on earth they found this guy but he was a complete tin can. IIRC he only fought once and had next to no boxing background to speak of. Here's a pic of Silva going for the kill. You can tell his opponent is quite experienced...

Silva does everything wrong from a boxing standpoint. Holds his chin to high. Retreats in straight lines. Carrys his hands low. Has awkward and inefficient footwork. Switches pointlessly between both stances i can go on. As a boxer he wouldn't even be a useful journeyman.

 

No offence but the rubbing your ass against the mat approach wont work on Sergio as he is prolly to smart to approach in a ground battle and 2nd as soon as that bell rings and aoki doesnt take him down with some decent TD then he is getting KTFO

 

What in the **** makes you think that Sergio would be able to learn to stop a takedown any easier than Toney? You don't figure that **** out overnight or even in six months and as much as I hate Aoki, his takedowns would look like Aleksander Karelin's against any professional boxer.

 

Anderson Silva would have knocked out Roy Jones Jr. in a boxing match had it been held when proposed three years ago....period.

 

I dont understand you guys. Anderson silva is a fighter! he is supposed to take on difficult challenges. Silva has more of a chance to win this fight against Jones than Okami had in beating Anderson. Okami's only chance Against anderson was by illegal upkick dq victory, it happened once it wont happen again.

Anderson Silva is Mixed Martial Artist. Boxing is a huge part of MMA and Anderson Silva is one of the better boxers in MMA. Add to that Jones is more shot than fedor emelianenko. Anderson focusing on becoming a better boxer will only have positive effects on his MMA career, so why shouldnt he go for it? Because the odds are against him winning? Low risk, low reward.

Is Jones a huge favourite to win? Of course!

Does Silva have a chance to beat a shot Roy Jones? Yes!

Let me ask you pussies a question: If Anderson decides instead to fight some boxing cans who will watch it? How much will the competitors get paid? How bad would it look if the P4p best MMA fighter gets KO'd by a boxing can?

This type of match needs to be made for MMA to be taken seriously worldwide. MMA fighters need to prove their worth in the biggest combat sport in the world.

Anderson Silva would be the bigger and younger competitor in this matchup, and he has a great chin by MMA standards, maybe better than Jones current chin which has been proven to not be that great at all.

You make some good points yaca, but Spider is 36, he needs to continue building his MMA legacy while he still has his speed and reflexes. Boxing matches at this point in his career are pointless imo, he will always be known for MMA.

 

At 36, Silva can't learn boxing. Silva might put his ARM down thinking he's going to catch Jones's leg and one left hook...good night Irene!

Anderson silvas Boxing match was in 1998 his next was in 2005. his first match against Osmar Luiz Teixeira 11-2-0 he Silva lost by tko, in his next pro boxing match was against Julio Cesar De Jesus (0-0) he won by Ko. Silva has also trained with Freddie Roach at the Wildcard gym and has trained boxing regularly throughout his career. Silva is not just learning boxing his first Pro match was at the age of 23, he is 36 now.

Im not saying a guy with 2 pro boxing matches is a veteran, but he has some boxing experience.
