As much as fans want this fight, who actually favors Cotto to beat PBF and why?

Don't forget about the faints to throw off Cotto's attack.

Cotto doesn't use the faint good enough to throw Mayweather off ... Mayweather faints the jab, then comes with an uppercut through the middle. Faint the left hook then comes with a right hand over the top. He faints the right hand and come with that fast left hook.

Faint the jab and come with the right hand to the body, faints the jab up top and jab to the body.

You know once PBF brings out those pot shot combonations he's on the verge of stopping Cotto.

Cotto is a carbon copy of DLH in his prime (but is a tad bit slower as far as hand speed)

Keeping his hands up is going to leave Cotto's body exposed to punishment which in turn is going to take away alot of energy. He drops his hands he's exposing his face to alot of fast crisp head shots.

If this guy shows any sign of getting tired he's going to get stopped.

If he gets cut ... he's going to get stopped

If he lets PBF pot shot him at will then he's going to lose.

Cotto will have a low period during the fight ... every fight does ... its only a point to rather he's going to be defensive or offensive.

FLoyd never gets tired ... you know that ...

thank , after looking at both fight cotto had with Zab and Shane I was surprise how both stood right in-front of him, I was even more surprise that Shane tried to Blow Cotto out early which I though was huge mistake .. because at the end of the fight shane didn't have the energy to catch cotto, he wasted allot energy trying to take cotto out early . I don't see floyd making the same mistake.

Pit and Pimp C ... how is Cotto going to adjust to the fast twitch reflexes of PBF?

all other's how does Cotto differenciate good punches and wasted punches. Often times Floyd gives off the impression that you're effective but he's really turning his body or rolling with the punches neutralizing the effect.

how does he prevent him self by getting set into a trap like Hatton did?

Torres, Corley, and Mosley all hurt Cotto with a right hand ... he's shown in the past that he has no defense for the right hand ... how is he going to hold up against PBF's right hand shots. He brings them from different angles and different types of right hand punches.

Floyd doesn't move as much laterally as he once did though. The one exception may be Baldomir, but comparing Baldi and Miguel is ridiculous. Floyd let fighters get up to him early against both Oscar and Ricky. Oscar was successful in that he opened w/ the jab first. That gave Floyd some trouble, esp early. Miguel is similar in that aspect, but he adds variety and better stamina. Oscar faded late, like he has for a while now. Cotto, while switching up and boxing Mosley still took some of those late rounds. He had enough stamina to initiate against SSM in the late rounds.

Miguel lands the two punches that have proven to be the most effective vs Foyd - the left jab to initiate and the straight left when he lines up as a lefty (think back to the Floyd-Corley fight). Miguel tests the body, which can be open vs May, and can do so w/ both hands. I can see Miguel landing the right downstairs much like he did vs Paulie. Floyd will give that area up w/ the shoulder roll, trying to negate Cotto's hooks upstairs.

I don't pretend to write that Miguel has no weaknesses - all boxers do. His defense is non-existent when he switches southpaw. He stops to admire his work and that gave Sugar a chance to retaliate. He will sometimes come straight in rather than give angles (although he has improved in this regard). He can be hurt to both the body and head (Quintana really stopped him dead in his tracks w/ the body work).

But to completely dismiss his chances in this fight is ignorant IMO. Floyd hasn't faced an opponent this complete since his days @ 135. And back then Floyd was at a more natural weight class for him.

And again, this doesn't matter because Floyd doesn't want this fight.

Im not sure but Cotto has been able to deal with quick reflexed fighter in the past, but those fighter just tried to out speed cotto but with Floyd it a matter of timing and the fact he will keep his eyes open looking for cotto mistakes .

Drop the huggery. We all know there are much better welterweights than Hatton. Collazo beat him by a point on my card, and look at what SSM did to Luis. Be rational.

I think this fight is a battle of will and all out desire more so than just all the technicality and stylistic match ups. I just think Cotto has unbelievable desire to win. And I honestly only see 1 or 2 outcomes. 1) Cotto wins a very close but clear decision similar to the Mosley fight. 2) Cotto can't figure Floyd out and he losses every round out of pure confusion.

I think Cotto is just too smart of a fighter to get "schooled" Cotto doesn't have all the speed in the world or power but he is just fundamentally sound as all hell.

Oscar was more determine with the jab but he was not effective 15 % is not what I call effective , he was able to hold keep floyd from advance quickly on him because of his reach , Cotto will not have that same reach advantage to pull from like Oscar.

He'll try his best but like I said earlier he will get beaten to the punch and countered more often than not.

Officially he beat Collazo ... officially he won a WW title and officially he was undefeated w/ Maussa (WBA Champ), Tszyu (lineal LWW champion), Castillo (first guy to drop Castillo) Collazo(WBA WW champ), Urango (undefeated at the time - IBF champ) on his resume ... Those guys were champions before and for the exception of Castillo - Hatton too their belts !!

Cotto has yet to take someones belt ... he's yet to fight a guy who's looks at him like an opponent and won't go out w/o a fight.

BTW I am a huge COTTO fan and I would love him to fight Floyd and win. But the winner is obviously in the air and one would assume that you would have to favor Floyd to win it. But I want to see this fight because I'm a boxing fan and I want to see Floyd Mayweather in there putting his name on the line giving it his all against the best opponent he has ever faced. Cotto WILL BE the best fighter Floyd has ever faced, and that is something Floyd fans should want to see.

How can you point out the flaws of a fighter and expect him to have a good chance. I assume that you're not a boxer or a trainer and are speaking from a fans prospective.

If thats the case you don't think FLoyd and his team don't already know that?

You don't think they are going to capitalize on his mistakes and neutralize his strengths?

    Thats for that post obedt

Ppl here also said that Cotto's jab wouldn't be a factor vs Shane because Mosley had had been affected by fighters w/ long jabs.

Cotto can be sneaky w/ that jab though. The litmus test for a righty's jab is for it to land well vs a southpaw. Cotto has a good enough jab to allow him access inside to Floyd. And Floyd doesn't do anything special EARLY in fights to keep guys off of him. He tries to decipher his opposition midmay through the fight, which is why Oscar was tied through eight. I honestly believe Miguel can start off strong and has enough stamina, variety, intelligence and skill to provide a true, stiff challenge throughout.

But none of that matters since... well you know, Floyd doesn't want the fight.
