Canelo Alvarez is P4P No.1 with that victory. A conservative bout that never really caught fire, with a suspicious ending in some confusing circumstances. But I can't deny the result, and both men showed some good work. Canelo especially surprised me. Oh well. On to Inoue - Donaire!
Loma is more talented. Kovalev is a spent force. Smoke & mirrors win.. Loma, Inoue, Crawford >Canelo.
Easy argument for Top 5, difficult to eliminate the other contenders with a fight against an aging boxer we've seen who has lost a bit in each fight, those still a handful.
I hate to say it but boxing, cuz of casuals, desperately needs fighters like this. Alvarez is relatively young, with great resume( on paper ) many people love him and many hate him, kinda like Floyd. If Kovalev had knocked him out it would have been bad for boxing, cuz Sergey is a boxer with no futurey.
No argument from me. My take is a compromise. On one hand he moved up and rocked a bigger, solid fighter. On the flip side, I wasn't one of those claiming Kov was still in his prime or capable of drubbing Canelo. So taking that into consideration the other nominees have beaten younger, less injury-proned boxers. Canelo proved he still belongs in the P4P, I don't raise a P4P stat when the betting odds were for Canelo making Kov the under dog.
