As much as i hated Naz, in his prime, he is very under-rated

I'm not sure that Hamed is underrated. The fact that Barerra dispatched of him and he never really went on after that does tarnish him in a way. I don't think anyone really questions that Hamed was exceedingly talented and able to handle himself in the ring.

Sadly, some people do just dismiss him as 'only fighting bums before Barrera'. Shame, but it is his own fault really.

no you got me. i looked it up and you are indeed right, naseem only fought " bums " . funnily enough right up until he went to america . because thats the way it is isn't ?
he might as well only have had 2 fights. in fact he did only have 2 fights, the others were just training.

Still overrated in my eyes. I wished he came over here sooner to see what he was really made of. If Kevin Kelly is his big win that says a lot. :-(

he brought so much excitemnet to the sport, we found him funny from his smack talk to his froggy frog style fighting technique!!

I rated him pretty high when he was with Brendan Ingle, he later just relied on his knock out power which saved him in many bouts especially the augie sanchez scrap!

i heard that oscar suarez had him training his legs, making them stronger so he could absorb shots he recieved in the higher weight division. This lead him to be more stiff and had him plodding on flat feet, the naz we were not used too!

By the time he came over he was past his best. Regardless he starched Bungu who was a top class fighter, he KOd Paul Ingle who you have probably never heard of, but Ingle was the IBF champion having KOd Junior Jones.
He toyed with Steve Robinson who was another champion who will simply not be rated by US fans because they have never heard of him or seen him fight, a bit like every non US fighter who has made a career in Europe. I remember how 99% of the boards said Lacy would KO Calzaghe inside 3 rounds.

Even before fighting at top level Hamed was destroying guys like Angeles in 2 rounds, and then Angeles within 12 months from being obliterated was taking Morales the distance.

Hamed KOd Boom Boom Johnson cold. Fighting when ill he stopped Manuel Medina in 11 dropping him 3 times through the course of the fight. He toyed with McCullough and won a shut out after breaking his hand in the third round.

When people talk about Hamed they have pretty much never seen him at Super Bantam. This was a guy who started out as a bantamweight and who was a super-flyweight as an amateur. When he won the European Bantam title in his 11th fight he put on a boxing exhibition. He used to throw multiple punch combinations, work off the jab and wait for openings.

By the time he came to the States he had fallen in love with his power and just looked for single bombs to end fights. He was lazy and arrogant and has only himself to blame for his demise.

But his power was truly something else, take his 2 round KO over Sergio Liendo, a guy who recently went 8 rounds with Katsidis before injuring his hand and having to pull out and who has only been TKOd 1 other time in over 90 fights. Hamed put him out cold inside 2, he had to have oxygen and was not moving for several minutes.

When Hamed fought Kelly, Kevin had only lost once and had recently KOd Gainer.
Hameds resume is heavily underrated by people who only know fighters that spent their careers in the states.

MAB is a HOF shoe in, and yet people dismiss Hamed as losing to the "first decent fighter" he faced. MAB was not "decent" he is an ATG. And Hamed was a shadow of the fighter he was, nothing to do with standard of opposition, he simply swung single shots looking for the KO, had parted company with the trainer who had coached him since he was 7 and spent his time in 5 star hotels playing Playstation instead of training.

Anyone who came to stand and trade got KOd. Which is why people who laugh at the notion of prime Hamed KOing Pacman have not got a clue what they are talking about. It is not to say that Hamed WOULD or that Hamed might not well lose, but it is not a crazy prediction to say he would KO Pac. Because MAB totally changed his fight style to avoid trading with Hamed and that is not something you can see Pac or say a Morales either having done.
