...he's far from the fighter he's made out to be. I've supported him on ESB for years, mainly since he beat Bunema. However, whilst he's talented, he's not an elite fighter and wouldn't be considered one in a stronger division. He's good, even more so when he's confident, but he's beatable. I think he will get by Macklin and Chavez. However, I think he is a limited fighter and doesn't deserve such high praise. I am a fan though and enjoy his fights. He's a class act out of the ring but some opinions on him are hugely over the top.
100% agree , I've been sayin this for a while. I never got the hype with this guy. I don't see anything special about him. Nothing about him screams elite to me. The only reason people are matching him with Pacquiao / Floyd is the size factor. Going by that logic any middleweight would pose the same kind of threat. There's a reason we have weight classes.
He's a very good fighter and has some skill. People place him on this pedestal after his performanes against Williams and Pavlik. He's certainly not infallible. But, it would take a fairly decent fighter to beat him. Most of the hype centres around a possible Mayweaher encouter.
I think so too, mate. As long as Macklin closes the gap all the way through the fight, he will have lots of success. Thats essential for him.
He is overrated although a very good fighter. His fight with Cintron I thought he won but it was not a robbery. His fans like to say he beat Cintron twice in one fight but that is bs. Cintron thought he was butted and was arguing with the ref trying to draw a foul. If Cintron had have just gotten up and acted as if he was not hurt bad the ref would be less likely to call the foul. The first fight with Williams people were making it to be one of the greatest fights of all times. Meanwhile it was just a good competive fight that he should have won but it was very close. Sergio's fans like to think he dominated Pavlik also. Thats not the case though and totally weight drained and just out of rehab Pavlik was up in the fight till he was cut. And he never gave Pavlik a rematch even though Pavlik gave him the chance to be the middle weight champ.
But seriously. If Sexy were to lose, watch how fast he falls from grace on this site, I swear, like mice to the newest piece of cheese.
Martinez should win by KO, remember that last time Macklin fought a decent southpaw he got sparkled after a war. Martinez should knock him after a rocky start. But you never know, Macklin could find himself in a performance of a lifetime type of fight should he start busting Martinez up to the body early.
