As of now, do you rank Pacquiao higher than any of these five greats?

    Alexis Arguello.

    Roy Jones Jr.

    Julio Cesar Chavez.

    Thomas Hearns.

    Salvador Sanchez.

Do you rank him over any of these guys?

If so, which ones and why?

If not, why so? And what would it take for you to rank him over them? Is it even possible that you ever would, or is he just not on that level?

    Sanchez.

Manny's resume is more impressive, his overall accomplishments more impressive, and his all-around ability continues to improve to reach Sanchez' level.

I think he fits comfortably in the same range as the others, probably not higher than any of them though. If he does pull off a win over Mayweather, than he's higher than all 5, no question for me.

Sanchez, with the caveat that Sanchez didn't get to finish his career completely.

    Maybe Chavez.

Alexis Arguello - Pacman achieved more, H2H a very interesting fight I think Manny can take

Roy Jones Jr - No, RJJ went unbeaten forever, P4P forever and performed at a higher level.

Julio Cesar Chavez - yep, Manny has better wins and beats him too

Thomas Hearns - hmm tough 1, maybe in achievement, in terms of ability its a close call, I'd edge towards Pacman

Salvador Sanchez - hmmm Sanchez is hard to judge as he was taken from us in his prime. Sanchez is a more skilled boxer and imo would beat Manny H2H at 126, Manny overall has a more impressive career

Higher than Jones, Hearns, and Sanchez.

Almost tempted in putting Pac over Arguello.

Unbeaten forever but you must remember he never took on the top 160-168lb punchers, and avoided fighting top heavyweight punchers, and never fought the best lightheavyweight of his era who also happened to be the real linear champion at 175lb. Plus he never rematched a much better Hopkins.

Just to let you know, Antonio Tarver is a mediocre fighter. Vastly overhyped, Hopkins exposed Tarver big time in 2006 as well as Glen Johnson another man who knocked jones out cold with 1 punch.

I don't know about that. Jones certainly had unbelievable talent, but he never showed he could win a war vs a great fighter, and never showed he had a good chin(granted not many could hit him)...but outside of a Green Hopkins(who couldnt beat megundo then) and James Toney, Roy Jones never beat an Elite Prime fighter. Elite Fighters like Michael Nunn, Gerald Mcclellan, Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank, Darius M, Rematch Late 1990s-2001 Bernard Hopkins were all out there and Jones never made it happen. Not to mention jones could have taken on a number of top level heavyweights in 2003-2004 and chose instead to duck a 38 year old Fat Golfer.

I rate Jones very highly h2h at both 160 and 168(not 175lb) but its because of his freak reflexes and ability rather than resume/accomplishments

Hearns and Sanchez are the easiest calls for me. Certainly more impressive than both, though obviously Sanchez was an unfinished work. The others are difficult calls. Arguello was probably just passed. Chavez had a great record but started on the downslide when he got bigtime Stateside status. RJJ was incredible but mostly against weak, if not hand-picked opposition, though still he ranks higher at this point.

Sanchez had a lot of unfinish work down when he died. But for what he did, he still became a ATG.

Some of you here are underrating Sanchez's accomplishments...Salvador Sanchez beat TWO young Undefeated Hall of Famers both by knockout as well as a slew of other top contenders/big punchers.

HMM based on this thread I would turn it into head to head matchuos.

There only 2 possible matchups worth considering. Pac v Arguello and Pac v Chavez. I l'm leaving Sal out due to what happened to him and Pac not being his best at the same time in his career.

Hearns is too big as is Roy.

So how would Pac have fared against Chavez or El Flaco Exposivo at 135 say. We mostly all agree he has no chance v Duran.

I did kinda qualify it, also there is another thread here were folks believe Duran beat Pac, pretty much in a landslide. I'm in that camp, that believes Duran beats Pac.
