May 18th @ Elland Road. (note: still not officially confirmed) Mooted unification of the WBO (1st defense of Stevenson) and IBF (4th defense of Warrington) featherweight titles. Both men are undefeated professionally. Warrington is 30-0 (7) and Stevenson is 13-0 (7). In the amateurs, the Brit went 40-3, and the American 123-10* - highlights for the former including having defeated Abdul Barry "Kid Galahad" Awad x2; for the latter splitting a 2-2 series with Ruben Villa IV and defeating Vladimir Nikitin, Kingry García, and Brandon Figueroa. Each man lost his respective final-ever amateur contest (Warrington against Tom Stalker and Stevenson against Robeisy Eloy Ramírez Carrazana, but the American did make a pit-stop in the semi-pros, going 2-0 in the WSB). Tale of the tape: Stevenson 22yrs, 5'8" with 68" reach, southpaw. Combined professional opponents' record: 186-24-7 Warrington 29yrs, 5'7" with 67" reach, orthodox. Combined professional opponents' record: 461-326-30 Both combatants seem keen on it, as does the would be promoter. The date and venue appear to be set, pending both signatures on the dotted line. There is only an easily located fight-by-fight record listing bouts from -mid-2012, but he was 73-7 after defeating Noah Contreras in the Junior World tourney in Reno in 2013. So adding his pre-Contreras record to what's listed after - going 50-3 - gives us a rough approximate which is probably good enough for gov't work
Good fight and a tough test for Stevenson. I predict a good close fight and the hometown fighter (Warrington) getting the decision because it's the only way most close fights go (to the hometown fighter).
Warrington does have over twice as many pro matches but if you count the amateurs it actually swings the other way around, with Stevenson more than doubling Warrington's experience. And in sum, lumping amateurs, WSB and pros, the American has faced (and beaten) the much better opposition. So it might be germane to ask if the Leeds Warrior is ready for that Fearless (his old nickname; can't say I'm thrilled he decided to coopt the done to death Sugar, when he already had one and isn't even a Ray ) smoke.
Yes, because Warrington possesses intangibles that Stevenson has never encountered before. Josh is operating on a level higher than anyone Shakur has faced as an amateur or pro, and that's not me blowing smoke. Not only that but Warrington lately is coming to specialize in beating down slick backfoot counter punchers, quite frankly it's his forte. He's awkward, a hell of a rhythm breaker, great cutting off the ring, can close distance remarkably fast, has much better head movement, has been sitting down on his punches a lot more. Not to mention his workrate is insane. For what it's worth, there was nothing remotely close about his SD with Selby, it was a domination, same for his destruction of Frampton. The Galahad match was awful, but he did not lose it. Everyone Stevenson has faced is by the numbers, no frills, no specialties, no unique attributes, basically made-to-order for him. Warrington is anything but.
Wouldn't touch this one even if paid. My reputation for predicting fights is now worse than dog ****, and it certainly can get worse, namely by me tossing around predictions like I know something on fights like this. This one would almost assuredly blow up in my face and make me look a jackass. With that said, Stevenson by UD! 8-4-ish
Good fight! If Stevenson really is the goods he should win this fight. I think he's the better fighter here but I could be wrong. With that said Stevenson by decision.
warrington by Ud.. if its in the uk I can't see Stevenson getting the decision unless he dominated him 9-3 or 10-2 and I can't see that happening.
