any of you boys heard of this man, i use to train at his gym in dewsbury west yorkshire during the good old days, he was decent cruiser weight. Hes a humble guy, his gym is pritty good
I thought it was Crawford Ashley? If it's him I remember he fought Michael Nunn who went to the body a lot during that fight. I remember wincing at the shots. Ashley was in visible pain every time - awful fight to watch.
Easy faisal. Im thinking of going to crawfords gym to train, what is it like? Do they train amateur and pro? Is there sparring there? Thanks in advance. Crawford was a lt heavy early in his career and had a great punch. He was 6ft 3 or 4,he beat some good guys and campaigned at european and fringe world level,at one stage a fight with tommy hearns at cruiser fell through. Against nunn he dropped to supermiddle and fought at 163 lbs which was ridiculous for such a big man....I think he would have done better fighting nunn at 175...
its a nice little gym considering its location its not in a particularly good area. the training is rigrous and can be intense, and depending on which day you come and the time of year the classes can be packed out or empty. i think he only train ammeatures, iv seen him do some pad work with a couple of kids i'm not sure about pros (however pros do train in the gym). Theres plenty of sparring yeah your right he beat some pritty tough opponents like Carl Thompson, its a shame his career ended the way it did.
He was a very good fighter at UK/ European level, (def. NOT a club fighter!!!) had a very good right cross if I recall correctly. He was a bit short of world class but not that much, these days he'd have got a WBO/IBO world title easily.
hes a really good bloke l i'm not that familiar with his boxing career, when i trained at his gym i wasnt all that familiar with boxers and boxing etc, its only been lately that iv started to take intrest, the mans fought some serious contenders altough more often then not, hes been TKO'd or lost on points to top class opponants
The guy was 33-10 with 28 ko's, and fought twice for WBA world titles, including a points defeat to Virgil Hill. I'd say that was pretty good in my book.
last time i checked i was around 12 stone 10lbs, your better off finding some one who trains regularly (i'm a lazy *******), you'll benifit more.
