Ashley Theopane has signed with Mayweather promotions.........

It's been hinted at for a while.

He was popping up at Mayweather Boxing Club for a time, being Tweeted in pics with Ishe Smith and Badou Jack and the like...

They may not have done him a favor throwing him in with Cano first thing. He'll spoil and make Cano largely ineffective, but judges might prefer Cano's more forthright style and punish Theophane on the cards.

Theophane is from my part of North London has been given a great opportunity what he can do with it we will see soon enough.He has come a long way from the guy I trained alongside at the all stars & people that trained with him will be generally pleased gets plenty on here but you speak as you find & always easy to talk to once you know him.Last time we spoke was over a year ago had a long talk about his fight with Garcia it was just before the Khan fight I told him I liked Garcia as the underdog he agreed very heavy handed he said & Khan will get stopped too open you all saw how it panned out.

Asked him if Khan's team had been in touch to ask any advice about his fight with Garcia or possible sparring.Told me no & that is Khan's big downfall with his team & will be again be his problem against Garcia too arrogant to use other's experience.Blunt but true.

He will be 33 by the time the Cano fight comes around on the biggest card of the year quite right he is tested MM does that with the fighters he signs.MM likes to take a punt on fighters & obviously liked what he has done in the gym he has been sparring MM in prep for the Canelo fight.

You never know when you can get a break this is his chance you never know only has to look at stablemate Ishe Smith.

 

Nice post. Do you know if he lives over there now ? I see an interview with him in the mayweather club he looked happy and looked like he was loved by the other lot. Good luck to him, i think hes just happy being a part of it all.

 

Johnny he doesn't at present but he comes & goes frequently to the states i guess if he gets the win against Cano that would become a serious option.

The fighters he is sparring with he should certainly do it in my opinion the Mayweather gym or the all stars harrow road (which he loves that club as anyone that knows him would back me up).Trust me total chalk & cheese anyone on the forum that has trained there would tell you freezing in the winter stifling in the summer the only ventilation at times the cracked & sometimes broken windows!

To add a bit as well he trained extra sessions on a Monday or Wednesday morning alongside a group of us that were shift workers,am's & guys fighting white collar & helped out with advice & enjoyed all the banter we had.

We got there our training was between 11-1pm every time he was there first in before us & still finishing off after most of us had left by 12-45 often without his trainer just doing extra sessions.He get's a bit of stick about claiming to do long training sessions i have seen them first hand.

Again i take as i find & hope he does well like i say see him rarely now & always stops to talk asking about all the guys that trained on those mornings self managed for so long trust me a brave road to take.

 

He has been inactive and not on good form lately, but he gave Danny Garcia all he could handle when he actually fancied the job, what has Cano really done? Beat Malignaggi arguably but Malingaggi was an accident waiting to happen at welterweight, only his Morales effort is what made him truely known, and Willie Limond was more impressive against 2nd career Morales than Cano was before both guys were stopped

In fact, Morales was so impressed with Limond he wanted to promote him and train with him after the fight, saying he could perhaps get him a title shot if he was willing to move to Mexico, Willie unfortunately had to refuse due to family commitments.

 

Good luck to the guy. Not a fan at all, average boxer. Times I have seen him he is terrible, but fair play to him for working hard for his chance. Also lets get over this Danny Garcia fight, that was years ago when Danny was coming up. Put Danny in there with him now and see what happens.

 

Theopane has looked dreadful the times I have watched him. Not sure how he's secured a shot on the Mayweather undercard when he's been beaten by Hamilton and was getting schooled by Murphy. To be fair though they're the only 2 times I've seen him.

 

They must generally like him in the Mayweather camp to give him a shot. To be fair none of their fighters are partially of top quality. Tough guys, not much skill.

 

Garcia was also given all he could handle by a shot Morales (Cano arguably did better against Morales the year before when the legend still had a bit more left and was riding high on the unexpectedly close run he gave Maidana) - only to destroy him in the rematch. Garcia is very inconsistent with flaws that can be exploited by those seemingly below his own level.

Not all elites give elite performances every time out, Garcia being a perfect example. There are multiple styles that can make him look very ordinary.
