Nah. It was just a poor fight and a styles clash. Two counter punchers trying to counter each other.
Hard to score , but Garcia edged it out.

Were you listening to Atlas? :yep

Garcia landed more and with the higher connect percentage.

Theophane made him look poor, but didn't beat him.

Garcia clearly edged Theophane in a ugly match, Theophane is 99% better than LM anyone Mattysse has a W over

I didn't think it was as clear as you think ..... Danny is the same non head movement fighter he was then

He does still have some of the same flaws since hitting the world scene, yes, and he will probably always struggle with tricky boxers who like to spoil - but that fact (and whether he ought to have lost to Ash) bears absolutely no relevance on his next opponent. :yep

Theophane and Matthysse couldn't be any more different in their styles.

well... the judges scorecard in the first Morales fight was absurd too, and maybe if Morales hadn't gotten desperate knowing the scores that knockdown wouldn't have happened. Terrible terrible scoring in that first fight. Danny won because of the last few rounds, but I felt Erik was in control for over the first half of the fight - not looking great but doing what he wanted to do and landing his jabs at will.

Danny has his bail out power but isn't a great elite boxer by any stretch. He's good.

It was ugly but Garcia won. He is the better fighter and has improved a lot since then.

The main reason to bring up Theophane is because Garcia certainly did not beat him any more clearly than Matthysse beat Alexander (and arguably Zab as well).

Beyond that, he's also clearly a lesser fighter than those two IMO, so people harping constantly on Matthysse's two official losses yet saying nothing about Garcia's performance against a lesser fighter simply reveal their biases. The same applies to anyone who wants to suggest Garcia's clearly improved since then yet chooses to pretend that Matthysse hasn't made any adjustments at all.
