What's the deal with this guy Ashley Theophane?

I admit I don't know too much of him other than beating a completely shot Chop Chop Corley.

He's certainly fought a whole lot of dross in his time, does he stand any chance against Judah?

Judah has had his losses but only against top level guys.

I'm not too hopeful of Theophanes chances but I felt that way about the Corley fight too. He's a good fighter and he's improving... Every credit he's taken the risk and could reap the rewards of putting himself out there.

Won't be pretty. Judah ain't cut out for fighting elite fighters, abut at this level he's lethal.

Good to see a British fighter taking risks for a change - I think Zab has too much in each department. Though if it goes beyond the dreaded six round mark Zab may implode....

He was a lot better at 140 than 147, and is far less shot than Corley.

    Zab TKO3 IMO.

A man who has lost to Judex Meemea, Oscar Milkitas and has a draw with Daniel Thorpe against a guy who has beaten Cory Spinks, Junior Witter, Micky Ward, Reggie Green, Jan Piet Bergman etc. Seems like a huge mismatch and in truth it probably is.

Theophane is a real improver and has come on leaps and bounds since the results mentioned above. On the British scene he stopped Alan Bosworth in a British title eliminater. He has also beaten(the admittedly very shot) Demarcus Corley clearly in what was a huge win for the Brit. Apparently the Oubaali fight was quite close aswell and Theophane was unlucky to lose it.

It the mean time Judah has slipped from an elite fighter, the Welterweight champion of the World. To the gatekeeper all top Welterweights must beat.
He had a shock loss to Carlos Baldomir followed up by a loss to the man considered the best in the sport in Floyd Mayweather jnr.

Then he had an NC in a fight that should of been considered a tko win against journeyman Ruben Galvan. That was followed by a stoppage loss to Miguel Angel Cotto. Two wide points victories over journeymen and then Judah lost his 4th big fight in a row, when Joshua Clottey beat him by technical decision.

It seems Judah has really slipped down the ladder. So he's attempting a bold move to envigorate his career. A move back down to Light-Welteterweight where he had the best days of his career(bar the Spinks win), a weightclass he probably should of been in all along and probably would of been if not for Tszyu.

Judah is now thought of as a mentally weak fighter, one who will become passive if you can hurt him or if he starts well he just won't sustain it. It is indeed the truth that Theophane needs to last through the first 5/6 rounds to have any chance. However I reckon it's more likely Judah(still not quite looking like the Judah of old) will have enough to put Theophane away within 6.

The key thing to remember with Judah is that although he lost to Baldomir, Mayweather, Cotto and Clottey he was competitive with all of them and gave them all tough fights. That was at Welterweight too. Back down at Light-Welterweight Judah(if he makes the weight okay) becomes elite again. Just not quite the same man that knocked out Terron Millet.

He did win a good few of the early rounds against Mayweather but I would argue that either Castillo or Jesus Chavez gave him the toughest two or three rounds. Chavez gave him a really good fight and was landing some sickening body shots on Mayweather.

I would say even at this stage in Judahs career it is a bit of a mis match.

Having said that you cant blame Ashley for taking the fight. Its a chance of a life time and i dont count anybody ouy anymore. The last time i did was Richard Evatt v Junior Jones, and we all saw Evatt come so close to the upset.

But as TFFP said at this level Judah is able to be the bully and i think he will or should end matters inside 5 rounds.

Judah should have way to much for Ashley. Saying that, though, it's refreshing to see a British guy not afraid to take some lumps and actively pursue the best guys out there. Ashley will learn things a lot quicker than some of these prospects being mollycoddled along to 30-0 with no tests.

I think this is a huge jump in class for Theophane from even Corley. Nothings impossible but you look at some of the guys Ashley has fought let alone been beat by as late as 2007.

I think once a guy gets past his tenth fight, he shouldn't be allowed to face guys with losing records :deal

To be honest, once a guy has three times as many losses as wins, he should only be facing debutants.

Aakash Bhatia is facing ****ing Delroy Spencer next - what is the point of that??
