Ashley Thoephane. How do you rate him?

He isn't terrible and probably isn't too far outside of a top 20 h2h...but I'm not fond of his style, and think he got an absolute gift over Rodriguez.

 

He's a decent kid. Good contender/Gatekeeper. Just below the best level but can give certain fighters problems on his best night. Not a walkover for anyone especially guys like Brook. That fight would actually be a good gauge of Kell Brooks ability. Think of Theophane as a Litzau type. He's spent most of his career in the US btw, so we might not be as familiar with him as you might think. I've seen him fight across the pond more times then here. He gave a good prospect like Danny Garcia a very good test and some might argue he won that fight.

 

He's a good battler who hasn't really had any big opportunities over here, hence why he travels around a lot. I agree with IB that he got a 'gift' against Rodriguez, but did show what he was about in the later rounds of the fight. And as Slip says, ran a touted prospect in Garcia very close.

 

saw him years ago when he got a rare stoppage win, as people have said good gatekeeper type fighter get past him and your doing something right. If i rememeber his lack of punching power held him back a bit but he does have the odd decent win on his card........fights manily in the states these days

 

he thinks he's better than he is

i remember a while back a fight with judah was supposed ot be on the cards and he cried cos judah wouldn't fight him, but then he got beat by guys like danny garcia so how he can expect big fights is beyond me

he's decent, he'll probably earn a living from boxing for the next few years, but he'll never win a world title

 

Decent fighter, like everyone else has said a good gatekeeper who's awkward style causes the prospects a good deal of trouble. I thought he took the Garcia fight although it was close and could of went either way. Rodriguez should of beat him by a decent margin.

You have to give him his credit, got sick of messing around on the Brit circuit and went and challenged himself against the bigger names and has came out better for it.

Will be interesting to see where he goes after the Rodriguez fight.

 

Ive only seen him the once.He looked a decent fighter.

He got Dimitri Salita to say "bollocks" on Sky Sports. That'll do for me!!

 

I thought he beat Danny Garcia myself, although I felt he lost to Rodriguez.

He is kinda of a mess you about type of fighter, one of those guys who is a little unorthodox, can upset your rhythm, but not someone I would describe as particularly dangerous. I guess you could say he is an opponent you wouldn't want to face coming off a loss if your confidence is low, as he seems to have the ability to frustrate you a little.

 

Danny Garcia vs Theophane

Round 1 Theophane(close)

Theophane landed the looping right a couple of times on
Garica and seemed to be dictating the rhythm of the round
toward the end.

Round 2 Theophane

Maybe im being kind to Theophane but i felt he nailed
Garcia with the best punch of the round and landed
a left hook toward the end, Garcia is waiting too long and
allowing Theophane to dictate the pace and when he lulls
Garcia to sleep he's jumping in with the right hand and
left hooks.

Round 3 Theophane

Theophane scored early with two of those looping rights and toward the end he was actually backing Garcia up and nailing him with left hooks.

Round 4 Garcia

Better round for Garica as he countered Theophane with a left right combo and backed up him up the rest of the round and fought more aggressively, which is what he should of been doing from round 1 imo, that being said, Theophane still couldn't miss him with the looping right hand

Round 5 Theophane

Garcia is waiting again this round and fighting Theophane's fight again, Theophane landed with right hands and left hooks this round, Garcia needs to turn up the heat and stay on Theophane.


Round 6 Garcia

Garcia countered with the better shots this round

Round 7 Garcia

Garcia countering with the cleaner harder punches again in this round, Garcia hurt Theophane mid round as was looking to jump back on him and get him outta there

Round 8 Theophane
Garcia invited Theophane to attack by dropping his hands but he carelessly got nailed a bit in this round

Round 9 even

Garcia won this round imo but he had a point taken for a low blow, it seemed a little harsh to me

Round 10 Garcia

Garcia was more consistent over the round


Theophane won this fight imo, the point deduction was key. Garcia fought
Theophane's fight early on as he let Theophane dictate to the rythm of the fight, Garcia was being made to reset, and was getting nailed with raiding attacks because he was too tight due to the fact he was flat footed and looking to load up imo, Garcia did better when he tried to counter Theophane's attacks, that said, he was still getting nailed throughout the fight with Theophane's looping right hands and left hooks. Garcia's defence looked terrible in this fight, as he was hit time and again by Theo's
overhand right, he fought too square and was looking for too many singles early on.

 

he is just a decent,capable fighter, doesn´t look like he has a reasonable power in his hands, but his style is kinda awkward.i think i saw 3 fights of this guy: vs Oubaali, Garcia and Rodrigues.he is rated at 7 on IBF ratings right now, if he stay on winning track,can get some good fights,maybe a tittle shot on future, even i don´t realy believe his a top fighter.

 

Ash is out in NYC sparring Salita who is fighting Anchondo. Ash is now a light welter, he is hoping to sign a contract to fight Daws on his return to London. A fight i would expect him to win comfortably.

 

Really? that's interesting...he doesn't look the biggest of welters, It might actually do him some good, especially his punching power.

Theophane against someone like Frankie Gavin would be very intriguing.
