Are any of you boxers out there Japanese or Chinese or Korean?

To my extremely-limited boxing knowledge, there are no really famous non-Filipino asian boxers.

What have your boxing experiences been like? because i think we're a minority in this sport.

I would like to start boxing, but I have some doubts.
    1. For one thing, i'm scrawny and pretty small, and just weak in general...
    2. Age? 17. but i'm just aiming to learn the sport
    3. I feel like i'd really stick out at a gym, being the small scrawny asian that I am
    4. I'm pretty much the least confident guy ever. I would hope learning boxing would give me confidence, but if I end up failing that would kind of destroy the remnants of my self esteem

    Only Positive things about me
    -Really Hard worker
also, I can run long distances (like marathons)

    any advice?

What are your goals? You have to be really specific...

Blackwater, I think Manny Pacqiao is Filipino. I meant like..maybe a Korean or Japanese or Chinese boxer.

Anyways I'm really unsatisfied with my life right now, and boxing might be what I need to change that. You asked for my goal, it's to become a licensed boxer.

    Listen man,

I'm 17 and white. I box in Washington DC, also known as "chocolate city." At my gym, they call me "White Chocolate."

I feel for you, but get in a damn gym.

You will not immediately be treated with respect. Part of this is just what trainers do to weed out the bullshitters (and you will encounter many). It also may be difficult for you to get fights if you do not have a connected trainer.

But lose the "I am the least confident guy ever" bull****. Just drop it, and the rest of your ego too. Leave both mental stress and reactions to physical pain at the door. Empty your mind and do what the coaches tell you. If you keep coming to the gym and really have that "hard worker" deal, they will pay attention to you and you will become the boxer you want to be.

You're scrawny? Awesome. God knows the last thing you want to do is have to cut muscle to make weight, and boxing has weight classes so it's the perfect sport for a little guy. Being a little guy, I know. If you can run like you say you can you'll be fine. Any coach worth his salt will play to your physical characteristics, which if you are stereotypically east Asian means being quick, calculating and flexible. Here's a link to the Chinese Olympic strategy:

    Good Luck,

My man, u are young, dude. That's why u have no confidence. But, that will come with time and experience. Just be yourself. That's the best advice I can give u. As for being small, u are never too small for boxing. Ask Ivan "The Iron Boy" Calderon. The dude is a small ass puerto rican who is considered to be one of the best boxers in the world. He uses his speed and supreme boxing skills to beat his opponents. U think being small stopped him? Not a chance. If u got a dream, u follow it. And u don't let anyone stop u from obtaining it. Join a gym and I garantee u will find a trainer there to help u. Good luck.:good
