It seems to be a trend that Eastern fighters often have a pronounced weakness to body shots. I've been thinking about it... Is it because of their massive weight draining? Having absolutely no padding around their midsection, making them unable to take a punishing shot to the stomach? Some examples. At the very end of 2007 Jorge Arce went against 53-4 Medgoen Singsurat. Underrated fighter who beat Manny Pacquiao years ago. The first body shot that Acre jumped in with? Resulted in a KO. And connected to that fight... The way that Singsurat beat Pacquaio years ago...? A straight right hand to the body that KO's Pacquaio! Remember Saman Sorjuaturong? Solid WBC champion who beat Humberto Gonzalez in the 95' fight of the years? He took one of the worst beatings I've ever seen in the Humberto fight and came back to win. But against Kameda he was stopped in first round by a body attack. Am I crazy here or what?
It just seems like they almost have a inability to take a bodyshot at the lower weights, hence me asking if their weight draining makes it that much worse.
I wouldnt just make a blanket statement like that to be honest, some Asians are just made of rock, they are generally known for their toughness aswell...But Ill add that I think a lot of Thai boxers arent used to bodyshots because many have always trained in Muay Thai where you just about never see fighters punch to the body. You see a lot of these Thais come to Australia (a couple have instinctively kicked in some bouts and many also start blessing the ring when the bell starts instead of fighting, another Muay thai hangup) and they do often go down from shots to the body, even though they barely flinch from shots to the head.
I'm not making a all encompassing judgment call, it just seems like the unbelievable weight draining on their parts makes them very iffy in regards to body shots at times.
how many asian heavywieghts are there...and how many heavywieghts get stopped by body shots? now heavywieghts dont have to drain, and asian fighters are at the lower weitghs classes...2 coincidences maybe? i think it has more to do with this wieght draining and not allowing you to replace fat with muscle. a good example is garry delaney vs enzo maccerinelli. now garry is a tough tough man who used to box with his brother mark. originally a light heavywieght he lost to one of the magee brothers (noel). he came back at heavywieght and looked pretty solid but was too slight when he came against julius francis and was simply ground down.s o he took a hand at cruiser, which was 190 pounds at the time. and was really struggling with the wieght. drianing almost 20 pounds every fight. when he came in against maccarinelli. enzo threw i think only 30 body shots the whole fight and in that dropped delaney 7 times before it was made a mismatch. weight driniang has a serious issue to the stomach.
I dont know... south/central americans are notorious weight drainers aswell....A lot of Asians are small because quite simply most of Asia is or recently was third world so you have generation after generation of malnourished people. I think you will (and are already) see more Asians in the higher weights in the years to come.
While any person or nationality can be anything to the max of human limits, most Asian's are not big boned, thick ribbed types. I think that has something to do with taking a body shot.
I think we are bordering on racism here who doesn't get hurt in the body, and I don't think size is an issue as we all know boxing has weight classes. Are Asians a sucker for a body shot because they have trained in Muay Thai (my favorite form of fighting) or Muay thai fighters the suckers for having trained in Muay Thai.
I dont think its racism at all...Russ made a fair observation and backed it up with some examples..I dont particularly agree with it overall but It did make me think of times I have seen this happen.
