Since the the emergence of Manny Pacquiao and Asian prominence in the sport, most of the really great Asian fighters I have heard of have come from the Philippines. Even today, representatives of Asian fighters in boxing who have become somewhat recognized are Philippinos. I consistently hear of fighters like Bernibe concepcion, penalosa, etc. but nothing from other Asian countries. In the past there have been truly great fighters like Galaxy and Harada from thailand and Japan In Jin Chi most recently from Korea but still do not get the praise and recognition of the Pancho Villa, Elorde, Espinosa, Garcia, etc. I watched a youtube video where Espinosa beat Galaxy. Is it simply because Filipinos who have some latin influence in their culture are that much better? Or is it because they have been fighting outside their country for a longer time? I like Philippino fighters, they fight with alot of heart and I hope the boxing fans support them so maybe another Pacquiao may arise. I would like to see other Asians fight more in the U.S. It can't be only the Philppinos that have good fighters over in Asia, There must be alot of undiscovered talent laying around.

Maybe they arent boxing nations. Like in mexico boxing is big because its almost part of their culture just like how mui tai is to the Thai people. As opposed to China were boxing inst that important because they are into other stuff.

Boxing is really exploding in Japan so a lot of their fighters there get top dollar to stay there and take on less than stellar competition.

As the sport continues to sprout out internationally you'll see a lot of great japanese fighters heading overseas.

You have to remember Asia(especially East Asia) has many great native combat sports. Judo, Karate, Wushu, Sumo and Taekwondo just to name a few. Boxing comes pretty low on their list.

That said, Japan currently have 5 belt holders in 5 different weight classes, so they ain't doing that bad.

I always thought Asian fighters were dominating the lower weights with a few Mexicans and Puerto Ricans.

If there's any man out there who could have beaten the Great Finito Lopez, it's definitely Chang... That alone says alot about this fighter.

I think people can most definitely make the arguement that Harada is better than Elorde but not Pac or Villa.
