I think the Ray Mercer fight is a very good fight to help analyze prime Lennox Lewis with. Why shouldn't we assess fighters on the close/competitive winning fights they had in their primes ? (instead of blow-outs). You get more to look at, in distance and content. Weaknesses as well as strengths, and how they cope with tough problems. Also, Mercer was probably better than most (not all) the contenders Lewis faced. Holmes-Norton tells us more about Holmes than, say, Holmes-Ocasio or Holmes-M.Frazier. Liston-Machen is a bit more enlightening than Liston-Patterson. Louis-Farr and Louis-Pastor (1 and 2) say more than Louis-Schmeling 2, really. Tyson-Tucker shows us more than Tyson-Spinks. etc.
Of course, Lewis-Mercer isn't a great comparison for Lewis-Frazier though. Mercer boxed a lot differently to Frazier.
Yeah, this is all true I think. But there's a bit of a difference between plucking two rounds from one of a given fighters worse winning performances and one of a given fighters best winning performances and comparing them for some mad reason, than what you describe above. It should be entirely obvious on this forum (but anywhere else i'd wager) when you're using the weaker performance to illustrate a point you want people to believe.
I would seriously expect 1984 Pinklon Thomas and Tim Witherspoon to give Lewis a fight like Ray Mercer did.
I don't think it is a mad reason to suggest looking at the first two rounds from one fight then watching the first two rounds of another fight. I wasn't plucking random rounds. The first two rounds show both starting fresh and dealing with their situation. Why is beating Mercer a worst winning performance than Mavrovic, Holyfeild, Tucker and Billups? From those six fights which one would you pick? This fight shows Lewis trading. It shows him under Manny Steward.
Yeah, i'm sure you don't get it, or have decided to pretend you don't. If the fact that nobody wants to get involved and that three or four people have said they don't like the idea doesn't persuade you it's a bad idea, I've no interest in trying to persuade you otherwise, or make a pick from these fightst. Most of all, i've no idea why you keep bring this bull**** to me? I've already said I'd expect Frazier to look better, which is what you want. Bother someone who disagrees with you with this crap.
Why not? I'd seriously expect them to give Frazier better fights than those of his opponents I just mentioned! Furthermore I would expect them to beat Bonavena convincingly, possibly by stoppage.
That's possible, yes. Can you see Thomas or Witherspoon beating Lewis ? I can. I wouldn't like to bet money either way on such fights.
