So im an amateur boxer with a very good jab and very good footwork but not that much power or speed (except the quick jab) and i had my first fight Friday winning by decision with my jab since the guy was shorter and had less reach. Im very good in sparring against smaller guys but when i get in with someone with longer arms i can't get in and place my shots....what should i work on

Boxing is mind over body...he conquering of any negative taught syou ahve on your mind....the total control, not disregard, but control of pain....now that said...

You will probably keep winning against shorter faster opponents in the amateurs because you say you have good footwrk and solid jab...the equalizers for speed..now the fact that when you are sparring with similar heigh boxers you fold boils down to self confidence...trust your skills , your jab and footwork obviously you think they are good since you mentioned it...

If you want to succed in the Pro's you will need to do far more than jab, since if you get a good pro style boxer in the amateurs agaisnt you, he will punish your body, you mightwin but he will punish you andin the pro's he will win clearly...

You need to start sparring with taller and stronger guys andstay in the pocket, don't rely so much on your jab but on movement forceyourself to move laterally against this taller and stronger opponent, only by doing that you will improve you skills and gain the confident your are lacking on your skills against opponents of equal size as you....

i am a lanky guy but likes to infight and recently everytime i spar i cant help but go inside, i heard that short/wide people should be infighters and lanky people should be outfighters.

    should i change anything?

Well yes, but infighting is a style regardless of body style, sure the stocky guy will be more suited for infighting, but hell Chico was a great infighter and so was Bob Foster...
