Sorry if this has been talked about but I just saw this last night Removing padding, antihistamines in the water (sp?) and Margarita wrapping ...Panama Lewis got called out and exposed for the scumbag he is. Aaron Pryors career is now under further suspicion too Was a sad story and a good documentary. On BBerry so will add more when I get to work
It was sad how weak of a person Resto is mentally, the guy couldn't even look Panama in the eyes when he spoke to him
I just watched Assault in the Ring and I thought it was a typically excellent production on the part of HBO. Luis Resto seems to be a lot more free now that the truth has finally come to surface, and I'm not sure I hold any ill feeling towards him. He was a young fighter, and he was just abiding his corners instructions. That said, you got the sense in that film, as you said, Luis Resto is not a strong minded man. It's easy to see how he could have let something like that happen, when he was unable to even confront the man who ultimately failed his career. It's who Luis Resto is. He doesn't ask questions, he doesn't like confrontation. It all came through. He served his time in prison, and he was banned from the sport of Boxing. I don't see why he should be condemned for the rest of his life. I respect him for telling the truth, and I can only understand how hard it was for him to tell his own sons that he knew something was going on. The worst part is where he was having to listen to his mother and sister tell the camera he is innocent, only for him to then tell them everything. It's a contradiction of sorts. It takes a strong character to do that. Panama Lewis knows he is responsible, and there is no doubt in mind he should be banned from Boxing altogether. He shouldn't be working with any fighter, in or outside of the ring, period. I hope he is brought to justice one day. Goodluck to Resto. R.I.P Billy Collins.
The documentary does give you insight into Resto's personality that many of us did not have before. Having seen it is easy to see how he could have been cajoled into this. What disgusted me the most though is that Panama Lewis is still making money as a trainer. He was shown working in the American Top Team gym and one other gym during that documentary, and always gets VIP seats ringside at the Warrior's Boxing events here in South Florida. It is a disgrace, and anyone that hires him clearly is a scum bag.
I do blame Resto because he did know all 3 of the ways he was cheating, and he even said that "he wanted to destroy him". But I understand that he was a young, desperate and weak minded KID when it happened. The story is equally as sad for him, as he lost everything as well. Panama is the only person in all of this that cannot be excused. I just found it very interesting about the water bottle finally being exposed for good now, and that he also used plaster on the hands.
Whats even sadder is that Collins Dad prvented his son from taking on anhy other fights after he was cleared to fight waiting on the lawsuit to settle ..
Yeah but that's not 100% confirmed, the dr also said the kid shouldn't fight because he could go blind.
Well he sufferred a detahced retna most recently lamon brewster got that ..Arum stated that he was cleard and that he had been offered further fights ..His widow even said it ..I don't think that injury was severe enough to prevent from ever fighting again ..The possibility of going blind would have always been there but whats to say he would of fought another cheater in the ring ?
If Collins Sr never grabbed Resto's glove when he came over to say good fight, this would have NEVER been uncovered. Scary to think what other fights in history are a result of cheating that weren't caught.
