Assessing Chael Sonnen's Balls

It's only a sport, but there are certain words that are thrown around and applied to many fighters entirely too freely. *****, shot, coward, fraud etc. People get WAY too emotionally invested sometimes. :conf

Like I said, you can dislike Chael's fighting style or his persona all you want. But to deny his fighting spirit, to not recognize and applaud his warrior's mentality simply because you don't like the personality he exaggerates for the cameras? That is just plain stupid. :good

I use them because IRL I am often known for having a deadpan, sarcastic type of sense of humour. Which does not translate at all well to internet discussion. So I use them to reduce miscommunication, as seen in the above example. I am often severely misinterpreted in real life, and it's even easier to have that happen online. :good

For the right money I'd fight Anderson, Jones and Chael at the same time. It'd be the most profitable 3 seconds of my life.

 

More fool them. Talking **** made Chael a multi-millionaire* and got him the biggest fights available in his profession. And plenty of your favourite fighters cheated as much as Chael did. Don't see how Wandy roids out of his skull and you love him, but Chael does the TRT thing and he's a low-life piece of ****. :conf

And I've never heard you talk **** on Belfort or Hendo for TRT either. :good

Sure when Wandy was roiding to turn himself into the Incredible Hulk there were no rules against it in the org he was fighting in. I'm sure that was a great comfort to the guys whose skulls he was punting into the sixth row of the stands. :yep

And by being the man who the fans want to see, and most importantly, by being the only guy in the last several years to be remotely competitive with Anderson Silva. ****, a half-dead Sonnen did better in the rematch than any other challenger has. :good

Would I have given him the Jones fight? No. Do I hate him for running his mouth, entertaining me and doing what was best for his career, turning himself into an MMA superstar instead of a mid-card nobody? No.

* Actually it doesn't seem that Chael is a millionaire, or even close to it. Turns out that after all his talk, Dana only paid him $50k for the Anderson rematch. Right scurla?

Doesn't change the fact that Chael is going to get knocked out in 1 minute flat! Oh but he gots those big balls... You wanna see dem balls bro? Maybe you could try to take a peek when Sonnen is in the shower after the fight..

 

I don't think anyone makes Chael look like a ***** as such, but I repeat, nothing he has done has impressed me anywhere near as much as Wanderlei taking on Crocop and Hunt or Saku taking on Rampage and Crocop or BJ taking on Machida and GSP and Hughes. He's clearly behind those guys in terms of the ballsiest fighters ever IMO.

 

I am a HUGE Chael Sonnen fan, I honestly love having the guy in the sport and think he is a phenomenal fighter. He has never actually been "out-fought" in the cage, prior to being submitted. Except in that 2nd round of the Anderson fight, but that was a wierd round, something didn't seem right with him there.

But anyway. I was dissapointed in how that fight ended. I feel Chael broke mentally in that fight, and the fact that he got tapped so quickly in the 1st fight shows that too. I think there is alot of merit to what Jones claims in that Chael is "mentally weak" and doesn't actually believe he deserves to be champ, and that's why he's so quick to give up.

Fighting Anderson doesn't take an extreme amount of balls. Chael was/is #2 in Middleweight, and Anderson is the Champ. All the **** he talked was to take his paychecks from $50k to $1mil...that is all. He also is the best wreslter in the company and Anderson's weakness is wrestling. I think he 100% believed he could take Anderson down at will, and hold him. I think the only fear he had was being submitted again, and not actually taking a prolonged beating on the feet.

Him antagonizing and then moving up and fighting a pissed off Jones though? That is ballsy :deal

BJ Penn fighting a prime Matt Hughes when everyone thought he was unbeatable and then licking his blood off his gloves, and then a prime GSP twice when everyone thought he was unbeatable, in my opinion, is a bit more badass and takes a tad more courage. Not to mention Machida, Gracie, Diaz, Fitch and others :deal
