    Watch his trilogy fights with Oscar Larios, especially the second fight. Also check out his fight with Jhonny Gonzalez where he makes an amazing comeback.

    Really love this guy. El Magnifico was a warrior in the ring and just an all round exciting fighter. Shame that the Marquez fights took such a huge toll on him to the point of having one of his eyes removed.

    Literally every single one from 2002-2008 deserves to be in the Library of Congress.

    ...but if you had to distill it to essentials, it would be: Rafa I, II & III; Larios I, II, & III; González; and Hernández {the infamous "platinum hair turned pink from some of his but mostly his opponent's blood" match-up, where his girlfriend, a hair stylist (who actually had Magnifico good 'n' whipped; between fights he would serve as the janitor at her salon; must've been some damn nice sugar walls :sisi1), had sent him in with a frosted platinum-dyed coiffure only to see it utterly ruined. :ibutt}

    Izzy is the only fighter besides Mikkel Kessler from whom I have, as an adult, marked out and bought official merch like a boy band's tween fangirl. My framed/signed Izzy poster and Viking Warrior hoodie remain among my most prized possessions a dozen years after purchasing. :thumbsup:

    He wasn't slanging merch :nusenuse:. Would've bought some if he was.

    (during his final active years he was a stakeholding partner in GBP, so that sort of DIY hustle was probably beneath him ;))

    Round 1
    Jhonny comes out, bouncing on the balls of his feet, popping a straight jab. Vásquez stalking patiently, waiting on a left hook. Gonzalez moving in and out occasionally committing to straight right. Vasquez tried to set up a counter jab, commencing a short battle of leads before abandoning said strategy as it clearly put him at a disadvantage. Izzy kept applying pressure and kept closing the gap. It's good to here Emmanuel Stewart again, need more commentators like him(decent ones, that is).

    Gonzalez 10-9, clear.

    Round 2
    Gonzalez still bouncing on his toes, peppering Izzy with on his toes whipping a left hook off the jab and daring down the centre line with a right hand. Vásquez trying his luck with a counter jab, paying off and landing some fairly some snappy. Gonzalez dictating the range and controlling how much work Vásquez does, cleanly. Excellent exhibition of footwork and lead hand use from Jhonny.

    Gonzalez 10-9, clear.

    Round 3
    Gonzalez still fighting at range in the beginnings here. Around the 30 second mark; he started looking for opportunities and pouncing on them, much more eager to trade. Vásquez punishing him in patches for it but still not able to keep up with the speed and length of Gonzalez. Gonzalez, despite giving it up often in this round, knew how to use that extra long reach of his. Jhonny showing a nice left uppercut in stages here, especially after a 1-2. Vásquez landing increasingly over the course of the last 5/6 minutes, wearing the less-than-bulletproof Gonzalez down?

    Gonzalez 10-9, close.

    Highlights showing just how sharp Gonzalez is.
