Let's assume Sergio Martinez got the win over Paul Williams and Kermit Cintron, would he then be considered a HOFer? Some people viewed that Martinez actually beat Paul Williams, and in his fight against Cintron, he definitely should have won that, but Cintron was able to convince the referree that he was knocked down due to a headbutt which caused the fight to end in a draw. Martinez just beat Pavlik, so with three good wins under his resume, is he a HOFer? Please vote on the poll. Thanks. :thumbsup

    1) Ray Robinson
    2) Henry Armstrong
    3) Sergio Martinez

    That clear enough for you?

STFU. Let him finish his career, then we'll see.

I think I'm asking a fair question. His career can be judged as it stands right now.

He beat all 3 in my book, Cintron & the 178lbs Pavlik convincingly and Williams in a close fight. You could add top British prospect Richard Williams (x2) and upset kid Alex Bunema, but due to boxing politics, that's all Martinez could do in the last 8 years, and that's definitely short of the HOF.

Now getting the W over Margarito and a definite win over Williams in rematches could change things, but HOF standards for me are pretty high, Maravilla needs to have a Calzaghesque mid-thirties run. I think he'd have a better chance doing that at 154.

Really like the guy but I voted for the third option. One win over a big name opponent doesn't make a HOF career. Excellent athlete though. If he had a very, very unlikely handful of crazy good wins at 35+, okay. Certainly not impossible, but so unlikely. I wonder what his plans are as far as staying around.

2 time world champion over 2 highly ranked fighters in both divisions....he has a very good grounding to improve off of it. a fight with sturm or/then go back to 154 for a long run might be a good way to get some credentials...loads of fighters are coming up at 154 now. good call on the calzaghesque mid 30's career.

    Not for that...

However, he does have a good attitude about wanting to take on big challenges so if he can keep winning some big fights he may have a chance. But with a resume that would only show quality wins against Pav, Williams, and Cintron? No.
