The first one. All-time welterweight rankings of the 6. Leonard is first, despite having less time at 147 than Tito, he owns wins over greats like Duran, Benitez, and Hearns. Trinidad probably makes it 2nd due to longevity, although he had his share of weak-ish opposition, he reigned for awhile and beat some undefeated contenders in Carr and Campas and was the first to beat Pernell Whitaker controversy-free, and then came the debatable win over De La Hoya. I'll say Tommy comes in third, although I think he wins head-to-head against Trinidad. He had a couple wins over some contenders or fringe contenders on the way up, and then dominated long-time titleholder Pipino Cuevas, before losing a good close fight with Leonard a year later. Certainly that was no loss to be ashamed of, Hearns showed some of his great versatility in defeat. I'll say DLH comes in fourth with a 9-2 record. One of his two losses was controversial, but so were two wins. He faced some excellent opposition during his time there. Duran's win over Leonard was great, but his loss was disgraceful. Duran also had a very good win over Palomino and beat a solid fighter in Monroe Brooks. If someone wants to switch places and put Duran above DLH, I won't argue. I think they're interchangable. Mayweather comes last with his 4 fights at 147. 1. Leonard 2. Trinidad 3. Hearns 4. De La Hoya 5. Duran 6. Mayweather
Duran would have beaten Tito and mayweather no dout at 147. I also think we would most likely get to Hoya in the latter rounds also (if not a tko would beat him up). Add Benitez into the mix also from the 80's. Benitez v Tito Benitez ud12 Benitez v Hoya Benitez d 12 Benitez v PBF I don't know Oh first one obviously, match them up against eo one on one.
Damn, typed in a really intricate answer and accidently deleted the whole thing. Anyway, let me try and remember the original point. I will seperate Leonard as the mere mention of his name gets us all doey-eyed and nostalgic and as he has achieved boxing god status which leaves Duran and Hearns who are a lot more human. I will seperate Mayweather from the list because I feel he didn't extend himself to the limit like the other Atg's in the list in terms of competition and risk. Which leaves the question to be rephrased; Were Duran and Hearns better ATG's than DLH and Tito? I would say they are somewhat equal. If I am not mistaken Hearns matched DLH in "accomplishments" but proved to have a glassier chin if you can get within his range. Tito is a puncher like Hearns but does not have his range of boxing ability. DLH can be very ferocious like Duran but tires if he's having a bad hair day and like Duran well be remembered as a lighter weight fighter when they were at their peak. What these four have in common is that they were gods who went too high up in weight and took their losses and their knock outs. At welterweight I would say its a toss up with Hearns coming out as favorite.
The only match up out of that 90's group to have a chance with anyone out of the old school Group would possibly be Trinidad over Duran. But thats just me.
