At 23 years of age...

Forget about his age. In terms of fighter years he's old and has plenty of milage. Shogun is from ChuteBoxe. Those guys used to have SERIOUS gym wars. Couple this with his numerous surgery's and injury's and its VERY apparent that Rua isn't the same fighter he once was. The unified rules have also taken away key facets of his striking namely foot stomps and soccer kicks which Chute Boxe fighters used in abundance.

 

i think sgogun is a beast, he was hurt against forrest suposebly, coming off surgery suposed to help, forrest was taking him down a lot, and last i checked bones, is a lot better wrestler that forrest

 

I was more on about the style or dynamics of his ability, i think he is well rounded enough skills wise to compete with anyone of a newer generation.

 

Bones has the Bones to be the new L.Heavyweight King

 

Bones of now will beat that 23 year old version of Rua. This is the new breed my friends, if you cant recognize it, I cant help you.

 

I still believe that Bones is not ready for Rua.

Bones banking on Shogun not being 100% is folly.

Shogun at 100% beats Jones, violently.

 

Why? have missed Jones last few fights? The guy has put dents in the faces of his opponents nobody has been able to do anything against him. The guy is a beast......

 

I have seen Bones recent fights against guys who could not challenge him.

Going from Bader to Rua is a giant step up in competition.

He beat Bader and Matuyshenko and Vera( who by the way also looked fantastic in his early days) but to feed him to shogun a much more proven entity is not good for Bones future.

I the fighters on Bones list are not nearly as dangerous as the ones on Shoguns.

Let the prospect mature and jones can be an unstoppable force right now although impressive Jones still seems rather raw to me.

 

Now that's a seriously bold statement! How can you even compare the two when you look at the resume of Rua at 23 and Bone's resume? I think at 23 Rua beats Jones based on the only credible evidence you can use to make such a comparison, they're records, of which Rua's was MUCH more impressive.

Now in saying that, Jones and the Rua of today is a much more interesting fight. I'm backing Shogun, but he needs to come into this fight as fit as he was in the Machida fight, anything less and it'll be a long night for him.

Its a great point , and a testiment to the wrecking machine that Shogun was , Rampage was a little less skilled back then and Reem was a gatekeeper @205 (for the top level 205'ers) but overall your point is heard !!!!

People are getting way ahead of thereselves with Jones against Shogun , if Jones does not stop lunging in with single jabs he's getting his head taken off by Shogun :deal

His stand up is very flawed in comparison to Shogun , and if he decides to stand up with Shogun its only a matter of time , Shogun's wrestling is his weakness , he has a fantastic butterfly guard and has lots of submission skills in his arsenal , he is very dangerous on the ground , and whats more he has a great JJ for MMA game , he uses his butterfly to sweep and immediatley gets back to the feet . He keeps his technique on the ground very very tight and gives his opponents nothing !!!

The question will be , is Jon Jones's top game too good for Shogun on the ground , and whats more if Shogun does sweep and stand how many times can he do this before tiring , or on the other hand , if Jon Jones cannot control Shogun on the ground , how long will he last on the feet ??? , its a fantastic fight , and im sticking my neck on the line with Shogun TKO 2 :deal , i feel Shogun is too good for Jones and i think he's finishing the fight !!!

 

Agree with all of this. I think although this is a bad stylistic matchup for Rua (at this stage especially considering the wear and tear he has accumulated) the experience, and the fact I think he's a better fighter, even things up and Rua will win.

 

I think Jones stylistically against anyone is bad for his opponent , im gonna be honest and say this though , stylistically i had Evans (as long as he didnt gas) a worse opponent stylistically for Shogun .

The big question there would of been , how long could Evans stay elusive for and not get tagged as well and taking Shogun down repeatidly ??? ............. , see Evans in the shape of his life against Rapmage rounds 1 and 2 but still gassed , as he did against Alves , while he has air in his lungs Evans is an explosive un predictable athlete who's a handfull for every fighter on the planet .
