When GGG burst onto the American scene up until around the Murray and Lemiuex fights he was a monster. Massive power, stamina and chin. At 35 though he fought a peak Canelo and gave away basically all the advantages because he's old. Stamina was no longer the same. He compensated for that by pacing. Notice how Golovkin started slow and waited for Canelo to tire. Craftiness by GGG. His power was no longer as sharp or explosive. That's ok though he landed clean, sharp and precise. He was so much slower than the younger, quicker Canelo. But footwork, timing and jab took away the ring from Canelo. Every time Canelo wanted to dance or put in a combo GGG took away ring real estate and stuffed that jab in his face. Completely disrupting any rhythm for Canelo. This is why GGG in his prime was the most avoided man boxing has seen in a long time. He was a well schooled technician with unlimited stamina and pressure. Combined with his power and chin he ran through everybody and put the fear of god in every opponent on the planet.
After rewatching the fight, I actually think he looks great. He was just up against a great opponent.
Exactly, I said it right after the fight ended, what did people expect Golovkin to just KO canelo in 2 rounds, Canelo is no Stevens or Murray or Geale or whoever. He is an elite fighter, one of the top 7 p4p, Golovkin dismantled him at 35. He still looks great and I wouldn't call his performances a decline but a step up in quality.
Canelo isn't a great fighter. The only thing that saved him from a KO like the rest of GGG's opponents is GGG is now 35.
Golovkin was always a bit over rated. He ran through what was the weakest middleweight division of the last 40 or so years. Those scrubs succumbed to the brute force of his onslaught. But the few opponents who had a little talent, or heart, exposed his flaws. Canelo had little problem with Golovkin's predictable attack. It was the same pattern of attack over and over. Golovkin doesn't have a high boxing IQ at all. He's lucky Canelo doesn't have a gas tank. He's also lucky Pirog had to retire with that back injury. A healthy Pirog would have done a number on Golovkin had they ever fought.
You don't know what you're watching. GGG did exactly what an intelligent stalker should do. He was patient and used the jab. He looked like Chavez Sr. He had no wasted energy and effectively cut off the ring. GGG fought at his pace and it looked like a GGG fight. Don't know what you're talking about.
lol Sr would never hold back against a guy laying on the ropes and admire the view.. I bet he wished Pernell would have willingly rested up against the ropes and beckoned him in.
No he didn't. The technical display was mostly shown from Canelo. The same people who fervently scream robbery are the same people admitting this simple fact. G just used more effort and will and looked very dumb and limiters at times because he's not that great of a technical fighter lmao You guys need to stop with your tall tells and start using your eyes This content is protected
That's exactly what Sr. did. That's what made him so special. He didn't just rush in like an imbecile. Have you ever seen him fight?
They both showed great technical ability. It was a great fight and very close. At the end though, I felt like GGG was controlling the fight. GGG played the role of a counterpunching aggressor perfectly. It was textbook. He won the fight with his jab. Some of you guys have to stop with your blatant hatred. Doesn't it get tiring to hate so much?
The better counter puncher was Canelo. G just moved forward and threw more punches lol This content is protected I didn't see a "pressure counter puncher" lmao The stuff people make up for this G.
When did i ever say rushed in like an imbecile? Sr was an impeccable fighter on the inside. He'd work guys over up against the ropes , he wouldn't let them off the hook like Golovkin did.
I feel like people really have no idea what they're watching. GGG did his job to perfection. That's the way you stalk an opponent. He cut off the ring effectively, didn't waste punches, let Canelo burn himself out, feinted, used the jab, and switched stances when he had an angle of opportunity. He looked like Chavez Sr. I just don't understand what people watch. Personally, I thought he edged the fight, which is what should be expected when you have two guys that are elite level fighters. It was a HIGHLY technical fight by both fighters.
