Seems a little heavy to me, but that's because i'm 5 8 and 139 lbs (looking to move to 132). If you have the speed, movement and cardio to hang with the bigger guys, then all the power to you. My strength training concentrates on lower weight, high reps - not maxed out (squat & DL 90 lbs lol). I guess I don't have much of an expert opinion on this, but despite our similarity in height and large gap in body types, I would support the idea many share here that it depends on many things, primarily your own athletic ability. I'm also a 2-1 amateur. Good luck in future fights!
If you can answer my question I think you will have the answer to yours... What TWO things do all these boxers have in common and in what ONE thing are they ALL different? Carlos Zarate Salvadore Sanchez Roberto Duran Barney Ross Tony Zale Dick Tiger Tommy Burns
that's a good one. they were all champions, all 5-8" or shorter. they were all champions in different divisions?
Yes indeed - all champs and in the Hall of Fame, All within 1" of 5'8" and different from each weight class from Bantam to Cruiser (Heavyweight in the old days). Find your "natural weight" the lightest at which you retain your strength, speed and stamina and I hope to add your name to the list!
I have lived mine as well --- you stunned ****. I am telling you that a short fat **** is at a big disadvantage giving away 2-3 inches in height or even more. He could do all the squats in the world and unless he fights a real tomato can, he will have problems against a good tall opponent. His description of himself appears to be taylor-made for the role of a "catcher". This is boxing that we are talking about, not sumo wrestling. Was that your sport ???
tyson walked in an akward fat kid himself. you make it sound like he will have no chance. you lived your dream of rollin in a professional ring as have I, that doesn't change my opinion. why waste your time just to **** on the kid. for most people the only limits that they have are the ones that they put on themselves, they allow it to be that way and so it is. the way that i overcame large disadvantages in height was with constant pressue, lots of lead rights to the body with plenty of head movement while trying to make it a back alley brawl. 5th fight ever at 125lb, me 5-9 and opponent 6-1 and a southpaw to boot. we would meet 5 times, he won one. a guy who ended up fighting for a world title, 6-1 we foght 3 times, he won one. pro bout, me 5-10, hes 6-3 w-ko4. i put some heavy sauce on those ribs with lead right hands coming in under his jab and following with heavy hooks. they were taping up his ribs as I past his locker room. height is only a disadvantage if you allow it to be. I can overcome height disadvantages just like anybody else can if they want it bad enough. now being able to handle the shots of the naturally bigger fighters may be an issue for the kid, jake lamotta seemed to be an akward fat kid aswell
OK I dont want to **** on anybody. Short mesomorph vs. a good ectomorph. In order to be respectable --- yes, constant pressure. Must stay inside the punch zone. If the tall guy is any good he will try to control his distance behind a real good jab, setting up his good stuff -- straight rights, hooks and uppercuts, then move 90 degrees and make his shorter opponent have to re-set himself. The short guy will need and use much more energy to close the distance. Also. he will have to exhibit good counter punching skills and decent speed. Much more difficult. Why give away that reach edge, if he can make a lower weight. He will also gain speed and without some decent speed , it doesnt matter how strong he is. And yes, the head movement is good, but it is all for nothing unless he comes back with short punches. -- make him miss and make him pay. A pressure fight can hit like a mule, but he must manuver himself to be in a position to land. Note: Good fighters all should have decent chins, conditioning and be technically sound. The more fights one has, the better the opponents. By the time the kid is open class, he will know where he belongs. Good luck. One more thing --- forget the squats. Work on speed and footwork, in and out, side to side, bobbin/weaving and changing weight, punches in bunches. He can still cut the ring off and back the other guy up. Triple jabs.
You're so corny for ruining for a good joke. This content is protected Way too short? Obviously you don't know anything about anatomy and physiology of the human male. Haters going to hate. Players going to play. I keep playing. You keep hating. Peace. Interesting. Well, my trainer has me fighting at 152lbs, I don't have a problem with the weight so I go up and down between 155-and 163 (currently 160) I have no problem with changing it up either, I'm here to learn and be humble through this experience. I take this journey with appreciation and where I ever I go is wherever I go. I just doing everything I can do without over doing it. I'll keep you guys up to date.
