well he was being effective with it. thats a reaosn he should win the round. you have just as much rigth to say margo was winning
Thats one of the setbacks of having someone who's in your family be a key figure in your career. I'm pretty sure that Evangelista wasn't aware that there was less than 4min to go in the fight and that all Cotto had to do was survive that last round and he wouldve won by decision.
Here's my scorecard and notes: 01 -- (10-9 Cotto); close, AM had moments. Feel out round; MC circling 02 -- AM hurting MC. (10-9 AM); [19-19]; Cotto is not going to last. He will not make it past 5 at this pace. Unless gets lucky, he's done. 03 -- MC retreating; AM punishing MC; MC going nuts on fake low blow; (10-9 MC), but could be AM's round. Making fight [29-28 MC]; MC has to be lucky to last 04 -- MC retreating; AM walking thru MC's stuff; wearing him down; MC will never last. Has small chance; (10-9 AM); [38-38]; MC is wearing down, will never last all 12. He's getting stalked 05 -- AM catches him hard at end of round; (10-9 MC); [48-47 MC] 06 -- AM landing more. Wearing him down; MC full retreat; like SSM fight; MC taking shots (10-9 MC) (close); [58-56 MC] 07 -- Huge shots by AM; huge right by AM; MC hurt bad; MC in huge trouble; ; AM on it; MC bleeding hard; MC almost gone; almost over; huge AM roundMC almmst gone; it's almost over; (10-9 AM) [67-66 MC] 08 -- (10-9 AM) [76-76] 09 -- AM stalking; MC landing good counters; close. Even. AM more shots and thrown. (10-9 AM) [86-85 AM] 10 -- MC had most round, then MC hurt at end. (10-9 AM). [96-94 AM] 11 -- AM hurting him; really hurt; MC down!!; bloody MC; MC beaten up; MC. FIGHT IS OVER. COTTO QUITS, Down twice! 12 -- -------------------------------------- Without notes: 01 -- 10-9 MC 02 -- 10-9 AM [19-19] 03 -- 10-9 MC [29-28 MC] 04 -- 10-9 AM [38-38] 05 -- 10-9 MC [48-47 MC] 06 -- 10-9 MC [58-56 MC] 07 -- 10-9 AM [67-66 MC] 08 -- 10-9 AM [76-76] 09 -- 10-9 AM [86-85 AM] 10 -- 10-9 AM [96-94 AM] 11 -- Fight over; AM by TKO AM won the last 4 rounds of the fight, and after breaking down Cotto in the 7th began to dominate. He owned the second half of the fight as his size, chin, workrate, stamina and power overwhlemed the outgunned Cotto. It went exactly as I, and people like Zakman and San Rafael, thought: Cotto starts fast, wears down and gets dominated and blasted out as the fight goes on.
I seen Margarito's pressure being ineffective ... he wasn't landing ... he was just relentless in his attack ... and he didn't stop coming.
rewatch the fight lampley says that 2 of the judges had it 96-94 Margo as did I and the last judge had it even. There was no point for Cotto to keep going, even if he had a steel baseball bat there was no way Cotto was going to TKO Margo
